When you're crimping the chainstay, do you heat it before?

No not at all. Consider it a controlled dent.
It is quite easy to do if you just have the right tools. But as I said up stream you don't get many mm out of it

Thanks. I'm not sure if I'm gonna need that at all, but it's always good to know.
