• One of the things I loved doing with the old tiny-sensor GRDs was to shoot black and white with the flash on but super low - it made these amazing late-night portraits with the subjects picked out and the background all dark and blurry. A bit Terry without the horrible misogyny and less colour. So I’m in two minds about the new camera. It looks great in every other respect but I enjoyed the flash.

    Totally. IIRC the f1.8 version was the first that had really good, fast to use manual control over the flash power.

    Also fill flash is invaluable in daylight portraits of course ... or when you might not have a reflector.
