  • I swear officer, it was a cosmetic procedure to make me go faster on my bike

In all seriousness I think it'll be only a few years before there's some controversy about body modification in the Olympics or something. If it hasn't happened already.

  • freshly shaved before each ride. You wouldn't even need a TT helmet.

This is already true, bare shaved head is already up there with pointy "safety" helmets and only convincingly beaten by head fairings. This is one of the reasons why I think @xavierdisley is wrong to ban pointy hats in his rules, it gives an advantage to not wearing a helmet. However illusory the benefits of a "safety" helmet might be in a time trial, it shouldn't be that case that people are forced to choose between being "safe" and being fast. It's also a reason to ban head fairings in general.

  • Wasn’t it Ed Clancy who was up for getting his collarbones shortened for more aero?

Steven Kruijswijk probably would have won a grand tour if his shoulders weren’t so wide...

  • Whatever it is, I need it. On Sat I averaged 15 watts less than a friend who went 90 secs faster than me. Obviously I agree that safety has to come first.

  • safety has to come first

If you actually believed that, you'd ride this:

Upright position for optimum vision and control
Disc brakes for consistent all-weather performance
Fat tyres to minimise the threat from poor road surfaces
    Dynamo lights for visibility
Handy rack for carrying your first aid kit

If I have a criticism, it's the lack of a full-enclosure belt guard which would eliminate the trapping hazard, but you have at least to give credit for eliminating the chain ring, which is an absolute death trap as far as I'm concerned; who in their right mind would attach something which looks for all the world like a circular saw blade to their bicycle?

  • I wondered about this too. Subdermal fairing implants. I'd do it if it meant I got to race in the olympics. You could always take them out after. Or scarification trip lines on your legs

  • Yikes. Long and scary road. Lots of body parts you don't strictly need for cycling where removal would save weight. Doubt it would stop with ears and toes.

  • Russian cyclist Vladimir Ivanov, after riding 724.06 miles to become 24 hr TT World Champion. 2036, colourised

  • Yikes. Long and scary road. Lots of body parts you don't strictly need for cycling where removal would save weight. Doubt it would stop with ears and toes.

I hear @dbr is having his appendix and a kidney removed ahead of this year's hillclimb season.

  • Reverse blood bags, remove 2l of blood ahead of an event, don't need red blood cells for neuromuscular or anaerobic efforts.....
Then be really strong for winter TTs when you put it back.

  • Nails, hair and teeth. Should all grow back for Christmas.

  • Anyone got the Nat Champs dates for next year? Wish they'd release the races earlier, since I'm busing loading up my calendar already it'd be nice to know what's going on in the CTT world.

  • 10 miles - 1/9/19
    25 miles - 3-4/8/19
    50 miles - 30/6/19
    100 miles - 7/7/19

Haven't got the 12hr and 24hr to hand

  • The only two I'm interested in :P

  • If you could choose for majority flat TT's:

    1. Zipp 808 clincher front, super 9 rear.
    2. Zipp 808 tubeless front and rear, with a disc cover.

    Unfortunately confined to Zipp..

  • Corsa Speed isn't any faster tubeless, you just get the bonus of puncture repair

  • Get the proper disc, there are basically no circumstances in which you want anything else on the back of a TT bike.

  • Ah, that is very good to know.

Also aware that any cover makes your wheel look pants.

  • I know I know, I had just thought the tubeless watt saving might make up for it.

It's strange Zipp haven't brought out a tubeless disc.

  • It's strange Zipp haven't brought out a tubeless disc

I'd be surprised if they sold one Super 9 for every 10 pairs of 808s, so you can see why making a new mould for the disc is a low priority.

  • Risking giving away my secrets here, but I have a box of these with short expiry (November). The ultimate pre/during race gel, with just about everything legal that's ever been linked to performance enhancement. Worth 5w I reckon, make your face tingle a bit but I think that's just the beta alanine. Free if anyone wants them.

  • I'd use them but where are you now? Deepest south and then you work north?

  • Very deep south, and N1. Could meet somewhere though, will be traveling around a bit on Tuesday

  • If you wanna lug 'em to where you were last time I'll take them off you. You need anything?

  • Paddington? How about Euston as a halfway?
