I'm fine thanks bud. Still in Dubai.

Lucky man. Somebody paid for his Rolex with his life in Greenwich a few months ago.

Also, that's St John's Wood North London, Not St John's South East.

So how's the Daytona? ;-)

It turns out that Rolex shops in Dubai aren't very helpful if you are in a scruffy t-shirt and shorts.
Amazing selection of watch shops here. Have to admit that some of the diamond studded gold watches I sneer at look fantastic in the flesh. Even saw a good Hublot that I liked today.
Switzerland has nothing that competes with Dubai Mall for sheer selection of very high end watches. There are shops that have more high end watches than a Christies Geneva auction, I shit you not.

Lots of sports Rolex?

No, the opposite actually. Which surprises me.

There are no steel sports ANYWHERE.

Some other observations from the Rolex store in Dubai Mall:
It was rammed. There were queues to speak to a salesperson. None of the other watch boutiques were busy.
Despite being surrounded by shops with $20m jewellery for sale, Rolex was the only shop in the entire Jewellry district to employ a security guard and man the doors (and filter out the scruffy looking people).

I feel I need to at some stage own a Rolex for a bit. It's like how all car people should have a Porsche for a while.
I'm still not overly sold on their value, but I know their build quality is excellent. The looks I'm "shrug" on as so many other things look similar these days

Ugh so I was really pleased I put the Sharkdiver back on rubber but I didn't do up the screwbars tight enough and I've lost one of the ends. I really wanted to take it with me on holiday next week and get it wet!
Does anyone have a spare (for a 42) or know where I could get one before next Thursday?
-
• #29841
Yes, I think I do. I'll be back in the UK later today. Will PM you later today or tomorrow. PM me on Monday if I forget.

Way too risky to buy a vintage watch on eBay that has no movement photos? The guy said his watch repairer ‘assured it’s authenticity’ but he has no photos either way. The rest of the watch is clearly genuine. I have no reason to not believe that it’s real - I just would like to know the condition of the movement... he did say the shop told him it would require a service. Guess I’m protected by PayPal if it’s not genuine anyway...

Steinhart ordered, expect keyboard photos in 3 to 5 working days...

Your wish is my command....

Not really. A lot of sellers just don't understand how to remove a caseback to expose the movement, or are fearful of opening a watch up in case they break something.
What is the seller like? Previous history? Ask if the watch runs and keeps time within 30s / day. Assurance of authenticity isn't a guarantee of condition so assume it's going to need a full service and you shouldn't go too far wrong.
Post or PM me the link if you want, happy to take a look and venture an opinion.

Flags on today, wearing the auto for first time in some months. Not sure I like it any more. Could certainly do with a crystal sans-cyclops.
