Cats are basically bullies that a lot of dogs, especially the big ones, seem to put up with sort of fairly willingly...

So Chicken has been a bit out of it the last few days, has taken to spending all her time asleep in our bathroom which she’s never done before and barely comes downstairs. Today saw the first toilet accident in doors so I think she’s is starting to leave the building. Only pet I’ve ever had and after 16 years this is going to be a bit grim.

Our little Lula Balula has developed a lump in her mouth. This all brings back memories of Catface who had an aggressive tumor. Lula seems chirpy at the moment so we aren't rushing her to the vets (who I have spoken to on the phone) & she is eating. Car trips stress her out so if we can we are avoiding upsetting her too much. We are however going to get her checked out on Saturday when we have the time to spend with her before & after the appointment. I'm super worried as her mouth is the one area insurance wont cover & I know I wont be able to afford any treatment, plus she is getting on a bit with two different ongoing long term illnesses.
I'm absolutely thinking the worst right now, but I know that I have given the initially hard to love cat a good two years. The last year on the boat seems to have mellowed her out further & she has become a true boat cat. I guess we will see what Saturday brings.

:( sorry to hear that. remembering when you first got her, you've done wonders and she seems to have really relaxed on the boat. fingers crossed for the vet and hope you still have some good times remaining.

When he was an adolescent he had no idea how to deal with the cats, especially the fiercer one. She had this idea that if anything startled her or annoyed her it must be the dog's fault and would attack him without hesitation. One time my dad was visiting and knocked a chair over and she launched herself across the room and attached her claws to his nose and had him yelping in pain even though he was nowhere near the chair.
As he got a bit bigger he put himself into a peacekeeper role to stop infighting between the cats or any aggressive behaviour from them. If he heard any hissing or yowling he'd be in the room like a shot and putting himself between them, and would sometimes pin them against walls with his head if they wouldn't back down. -

The Croydon Cat Mutilator has been identified - as a large number of foxes: http://news.met.police.uk/news/scavenging-by-wildlife-established-as-likely-cause-of-reported-cat-mutilations-323426

I've always thought the 'cat killer' was a good example of mass hysteria.

Patch has vomited about 5 times in the last week, except for 1 time, all the vomit has some hairball within it. Should I be worried just yet? She’d managed to go without vomiting for months and so she was given too marks (except the tooth) last week at her check up. I don’t want to stress her again to go to the vet especially she has an upcoming visit to have her tooth removed soon...

summer/winter coat change causing hairballs?

Back from the annual check-up at the vet yesterday. Great news was that our little chubby puss has lost 0.5kg since the last appointment.
Something to do with the hot summer we had. She could probably do with 2 or 3 more heatwaves to be fair.
Anyone managed to get their cat to shed a few pounds? How? -

Automated feeder that releases a set amount of food three times per day. Circa 2kg loss.

just feed it when hungry then pull up the food - dont leave down dry all day, they can eat it quite a bit without you realising, although it does depend on the cat, some of mine never got overweight, where as one did !!!

So Chicken has swerved rainbow bridge, some antibiotics and bloods to check her kidney function, happy house here this evening.
Years ago when I had two cats and a chunky labrador in the house I used to get up in the night for a drink if I couldn't sleep, and the smaller cat would have stolen the dog's massive bed and made it impossible for him to get in by spreading out across the centre. He'd be lying on the cold kitchen floor and would look at me beseechingly until I picked the cat up to drape him across the back of the sofa. The cat would always be totally boneless and would barely wake up during this.
The cat was totally in love with the dog and would always nuzzle into him and lick the top of his head so I don't think it was a malicious move; sadly the feelings weren't reciprocated.
