  • Did my first parkrun at the weekend. I was pretty tired turning up and felt pretty anxious - it was insanely busy as another local parkrun wasn't on. I started off back in the starting grid and found it pretty stressful at first winding between people, feeling like I was going to stamp on ankles. Soon got used to it though and found it really enjoyable being able to look forward and see if I could catch someone. People who I thought I could hang on to became catch-able and I started feeling comfortable enough to run on. A strong motivational moment came when I saw a mate who is a really strong runner (maybe not by this threads standards but definitely by mine) coming past me on part of the course. Also great encouragement by a guy I passed on the finishing straight. I really loved the atmosphere and it properly felt like starting the day right. Biggest bonus of all was beating my previous best 5k by 2 minutes! Came in at 21:39, which I'm still bowled over by. Had hoped to run 5k in under 23 minutes this year so was absolutely gobsmacked.

My girlfriend keeps going from strength to strength too - another PB for her on the same morning!

Well done @DenGlanzig too, been enjoying following your running progression.
