by any chance did you end up being any of this type stuff and have any spare? Struggling to find small lengths

Yeh I bought 10m I think off the top of my head, probably used 2-3m.
You can buy small lengths for buttons on fleabay;

Dynamo people!
I have a set of Hunt/Mason 650b wheels. I now want a dynamo hub wheel.
Do I just buy the Hunt 650b Dynamo Front Wheel £349 (and sell a single front wheel) or do I buy the hub and spokes and get the wheel built butchering my old one?
There doesn't seem to be much cost difference but I won't get any money back if I butcher the wheel. But on the other side who will want a single 650b front wheel?!
Am I missing anything? -

Might be a nice option to have a spare front wheel for when riding in summer without dynamo lighting?
Consider buying the full 650b dynamo wheelset and either sell your set or pair your non-dynamo front with the new rear?

I did consider this as the resale of my current wheelset will be better as a pair and easier to shift. But cash up front and possibility of wheelset sitting around unsold or selling for not a lot of money kind of steered me away.

This was my first thought actually but I'll let you discuss having another wheel sitting about my flat with my girlfriend. Let me know if you convince her once she's calmed down ;)

Hunt postage is pretty quick, so you could perhaps sell your wheelset and then order the new one after with maybe only a day or two inconvenience.

Bought a Son Deluxe hub, nearly new, for £115!
time to get building.
I've never built a wheel before, is there anything specific to building a dynamo front I should know?

Nice deal!

Very true.

The hubs are supplied with see thru blue tape around the curves of the hub shell, so that you don’t damage the finish with the threads if your inbound spokes whilst threading up. You peel it thru the spokes once you’re finished. So maybe add a layer of gaffer around the shell (maybe with a film of grease under to stop the glue being sticky-onny later.)
Otherwise just crack on! I love building wheels, sometimes I think I build bikes just so I can build some more wheels.

15mm for me. That price doesn't seem great considering its used. 122 new or 92 used.
30 quid for a warranty and longer life -

DH-N80 (74mm flanges) and Archetype (595mm) with 32 spokes: does three cross result in too much stress at the nipple ends?
-
• #1293
Not in my experience. Have had a DH3N80 3-cross wheel for years.

Nowhere near.

Picked up a Son 28 secondhand for a fair price. Having never owned a dynamo hub before I was, I think just expecting a slight constant resistance when turning the axle by hand compared to a non-dynamo hub. This one feels much more like a cup and cone hub with a pitted bearing surface, very regular clunk clunk feeling (not sound!) when turning the axle. Is that the norm?
-
• #1296
Yep. That is the magnets moving between the different coils on the hub. Very normal. Most son hubs are smoother in this regard than others brands however.

Awesome, thank you!

They all feel weird out of the bike in my experience.

Disc version?
What's the hub being built onto/used for? -
• #1300
@tallsam Cheers, that's reassuring to know. I was certain I wouldn't feel it riding but would loathe to find out it was signs of it requiring a service.
@psg1ben Aye disc version. Trying to track down a Pacenti SL25 32h dto match the rear rim but not having a whole lot of luck so will undoubtedly get bored and go with anything disc specific that looks vaguely similar. The bike it's going on is my use everyday make it do everything bike but currently that's mostly just commuting.
What happened to this?
