Thursday evening...
Needs electric, insulation, etc. Started moving things in to get the space back in the house.

Looks great - how are you going to light it?

I work for a haulage company, if we have some old curtainsider material, would it be of interest to you? Possibly white, red, and silver with red text on it.
Very fine shed you've got there. Much envy. -

I’d prefer a regular incandescent, and try to find an old school floorstanding anglepoise, so I can move it between machines.
Might have to settle with fluorescent but it gives me a headache just thinking about it...!

Yes! Definitely!! PM me for sure please :)

Back in work on Monday, will have a word with mechanic and let you know Monday evening.

Amaaaaaazing. Thanks!

Is LED any better? Hmm probably not if plain AC powered. Guess it depends on layout but I'd probably want something like an light strip behind each machine, and something portable like the lamp in front. Hate shadows getting in the way.

Not sure about LED. I'd prefer to keep a consistent ambient light level, and then use a relatively point light source for the area I'm concentrating on.
In Italy I had two great windows allowing a lot of light in through the day, illuminating the machines and work table, and also a basic lightbulb above/behind me. I could work fine until the evening/December, though it was a little distracting staring out the window at people staring in at me.
In the 'spare' room I've been using the tailoring machine here at my family home, there's only the main fluorescent strip light but it's relatively close behind me. Had no issues seeing the material.
Until the insulation and panelling happens, I'm not sure how claustrophobic the shed will become. Already this morning it's clear how small the windows are, they won't be providing much in the way of ambient.
Suppose I'm keen to keep a single colour temperature as close to daylight, so I don't want LED or anything too cool from a strip light. Indeed, that cold light would be fine to focus on a machine/table while working, but I find clashing light sources a bit distracting. Blame the photography degree.
When I spoke to my dad about finding an anglepoise lamp, he thinks grandma had grandad's one right up until her most recent clear-out. I might have to search the charity shops instead now.
To Do:
Insulation
Panelling
Electrics (light/mains socket)
Flooring
Shelving/Tool hooks
Storage solution (boxes/filing cabinets)
Work surface
Stands for overlocker & coverseam machines
InventoryProbably some other stuff too.

Can't you replace those windows now, before you do all the insulation work? We're renovating the windows in our house and new efficient 3-glass panels are surprisingly cheap
-
• #262
It's certainly on the list. I might have to be cold for a while as money has become incredibly tight. Need to get enough shed sorted so I can make and sell some stuff asap.

I'd consider painting the walls and ceiling white, which will probably help with reflecting the light from the windows. And then you could light the inside indirectly by pointing lightsources into the corners.

Yep, this is certainly a viable option. Definitely thinking white or slightly off-white.

• #265
I hear ya on the color. Nothing like working right by a huge window with a flood of natural light.

Just realised I forgot to add that I must find a nice long radio antenna somehow, so that I can wire up my little (inherited) multiband and get a nice strong signal from the continent.
Anyone have a big old loop laying around?

Well... I don’t have many excuses now.
Two genuine Anglepoise Model 90’s, a Dunelm copy, and a mini clip-on LED all for £20 in a charity shop - heavy bag cycling home....!
Plus the little grey one found yesterday in the loft, just in case.

Nice haul! Sell the anglepoises on eBay and buy a window for the monies :)

Slowly progressing.
Salvaged the rusted and busted filing cabinets that were gonna get scrapped, from the old shed. Vacuumed the evidence of spiders and mice, may one day paint them.
Need some nice racking unit to lay the material horizontal, and then relocate the table. Not keen on using those legs; likely put four legs/each corner at some point.
Coming together a little.
Oh, and 40W equivalent LED small globes in the Anglepoise Model 90’s.
Anglepoise were my #1 choice for lighting the machines, but I’d have preferred floorstanding.

Bit difficult to keep a dead-straight stitch, compared to the modern machine, but a refreshing challenge using this machine again.
Tested the transparent plastic. Can make some pouches with this stuff if anyone has interest.
Hopefully getting an electrician in next week. As for the backlog, gonna get started tomorrow with the things guys have pm’d about.

Slowly getting on top of the handful of backorders.
Got a very, very finite quantity of black, which is dirty and marked, from the paddling pool/lay z spa. Can make a couple of black rolls or pouches.
Otherwise, still got a nice small quantity of cordura, tarp, etc.

Some other bits been and gone. By the by, the black tool roll with blue stitching, from the photos above, is available. Again, super limited black material, all dirty and marked. It’s layered, plastic on the inside and a textured material on the outside.
