  • Still nearly 30 years after the end of the war.

  • A commemorative gift (long) after the fact?

  • It may simply have been a green sub or he got it when he retired MANY moons later.

  • At a party. He said he was massively smashed.

If it's true, I guess he showed someone and they asked to try it on and he drunkenly forgot to get it back.

  • Fuck, not my story!

Take it as you will. I grimaced at the right time.

  • Idiot.

  • That's the gist I got. English is not his first language so wasn't very clear. Says he hasn't told his father yet and can't replace it.

  • Nice, I do like a no nonsense baton hand and blocky markers.

  • NIXON ? special offers on sportpursuit? seem to have a large range, but not really appealing apart from this :

  • Wasn’t a big fan when handling them IRL. Back when i was longboarding, Billabong stocked them - used to look when buying my shorts etc.

TK Maxx recently had a few which, if they stock them, screams ‘fashion watch’ and inflated rrp.

  • Rolex 67518, 18k gold, champagne sunburst dial in very good condition and 30mm. I found one in a local antiques dealer (wife's 40th gift)... Stoked, it's the right watch, and from a reputable dealer. But the price... Ouch! Can't quite decide if it's good value or widely outrageous!

  • I saw someone wearing one and quite liked it. Had a look at them in a shop and didn't particularly rate them, somewhat akin to Fossil or similar. Quality didn't seem as good as equivalently priced Seiko/Citizen.

Although they market as surfing/snowboarding they definitely seemed more fashion than sports oriented.

  • good info - thanks everyone - the slashed RRP seemed really high, but even at the current prices (around 59.99 and up) they seem a little pricey......

  • Rolex 67518

you're obviously going to pay a 20%+ markup on a private sale. Is the dealer willing to offer a guarantee of authenticity and originality? is it serviced, and by whom? Fully original and unmolested? What condition is the case? Can you post a picture?

Edit: on an oyster bracelet you should be looking at around £4000 B&P from a dealer I would think. On a strap perhaps £3000

  • Thanks @freddo I have attached a bad phone pic...
The store guarantees authenticity and while they're not Rolex AD they are happy for me to get the watch inspected by one. They say it's original 1990 spec. Serviced by them with a 2 year warranty. It all feels very legit and they've been in business for 30+ years BUT I know I'm paying location and probable tourist tax given that they are in the famous QVB Sydney.

  • Roman numerals and batons. Thoughts anyone.

    Looks nice with that strap

  • Yeah, I've bought expensive jewellery in QVB. At least you know that the retailer has a strong reputation to protect.

Dial and hands look nice, lume plots still clean and present (example)
lugs still look pretty thick which is good (check this against google image search)

If I was being picky, it's had a polish and looks like the grinding wheel was a little rougher than should have been used - the grain in the metal is pretty pronounced. Otherwise it looks like a pretty nice example.

Other than checking the movement and model / serial numbers and the hallmark, you just have to decide if you want to buy the confidence and security value that a quality dealer will give you. On a piece like this I would say so providing the premium isn't astronomical.

  • just been offered a 2016 steel Daytona 116520 box and papers if anyone interested or knows someone who is.

  • @TRA perhaps tell them you really wanted one on a jubilee bracelet and use that to bargain down the price. Watches like this will often sit for weeks or months waiting for a buyer.

  • I've just made a purchase and there is no room in my collection for my Rolex Submariner 116613 LN any more.

Not going to say what I have bought because it won't be delivered for a month or so. Will post pics when it arrives.

    Anybody interested? PM if so.

  • That feeling when @ejay2.0 and @Stonehedge offer the two watches on your current list within 4 posts and you've just agreed (yesterday!!) on an offer for a new house...

If you're still holding when we complete in November-ish then i'm interested.

Out of interest; what range are you looking for, for the Daytona? Black or white face?

  • White dialled , and sorry just sold it.
But I will keep you in the front of my mind as and when I get another.

It was good value , but not cheap.

  • All good - after a black dial anyway.

If you do happen to come across one; either the 116520 or the 116500 LN w/ black face.

  • Leave it with me .
