  • swap of 9sp XTR to 10speed (although i might not, i like the rear mech!!!)

You'll be using some kind of cable adjusters {tanpan / jtek) with the 10 speed MTB dearileuers though, so more reason to keep the 9 speed :)

  • no i'd go 10sp road and change the cassette and brifter too ..... with super compact up front i could get away with a less wider range cassette too

  • @Heldring @WimVDD and everyone here, 28th of october I'm organising a gravel ride around Utrecht (the Netherlands). For details add me on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/indebetouw) or send a private message on instagram (https://www.instagram.com/crankzinnig/). @peter_v is already attending :)

  • with super compact up front i could get away with a less wider range cassette too.

Really is the better solution, however the small disadvantage is that the modern road front derailleur may not cope well when you go smaller than says, 46/30 and that is even pretty optimistic as my front derailleur performance is a little lacklustre (abet still work) compare to the 50/34 it was originally optimised for.

  • i think my FD is a triple specific and i just prevented third shift using the limit screws.... so far it seems to shift ok, but i've yet to use it an "anger"....

  • Di2 fooooooooool!

  • (even this is too much for me)

  • Won't the front derailleur will only care for the chainring difference Ed?(as long as the derailleur height is correct)

Although Shimano did release the Cx70 to use with 46 big ring, so maybe there are somerhing with the cage shape?

  • Thanks, @Jaap. My kids are at their mom that weekend so slim chanche I'll join.

  • argggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my eyes my eyes

  • It’s the bike of late eighties/early nineties French exchange student.

  • Would be cool if you could join, will have more details in the 2 weeks leading up to that!

  • Totally ridiculous.

  • Works perfectly. Thanks again.

  • buy a stupendously expensive set of aero wheels designed for a specific tire/width, add 10mm to that (ofc it is a compass tire) and then ensure you can't really go fast anyway by having your tallest gear be, what 44/11?

  • @JesperXT no probs glad it works

  • You might be surprised how fast one can go in 44x11...

  • Don’t

  • Can SRAM Apex 1 RD be run with regular road cassettes? I am thinking about putting a narrower ratio cassette (11-28 or 11-32) on my second wheelset. On SRAM website it says "fits 11-36 through 10-42 cassettes", will shifting with smaller cassette be less precise then?

  • No, won't make a difference. Will work fine.

  • any ideas for something steel, sram and within cycle to work budget?

  • fitted 2.25 tyre to the front of the Pickenflick - great for lunctime runs out to Clayton Vale MTB singletrack (near Manchester velodrome)

  • I'm looking at picking up a Genesis Datum frameset, but I'm not sure about a couple of things and would love some advice (I'm a roadie and this will be my first gravel/disk brake bike)

Is there any downside to the 15mm thru axle fork or the QR rear axle frame? The standard seems to now be 12mm thru axle front and rear. I'm planning on building up the bike with some Hunt gravel wheels which come with adaptors. I'd probably just swap tyres for road/gravel excursions (i.e. 32mm Pirellis on road and 35mm Gravel kings for off road)

Also, I was keen on a threaded bottom bracket at first, but this frame comes with a BB86 press fit bottom bracket. I'm a bit scarred from my Trek Madone BB90 issues - is a threaded bottom bracket really any better or is the BB86 system ok for British weather?

  • Both non-issues .. it'll be fine
