  • I've had a GB guard go too, I think it's down to mounting and preventing the deadly combination of stress risers and fatigue cycles. Fatigue is obviously more of a problem with aluminium but it'll still do bad things to steel.

  • The two materials do act differently to fatigue. Alu hardens (and will eventually crack). Steel should flex enough and survive ... forever basically.

    I guess it’s theoretically possible to isolate aluminium enough from bad vibes - I just think it isn’t practical.

    I think plastic is the answer.

  • I mean mostly from a crack propagation view rather than a fatigue hardening - I think it was that that did for my GB guard. I bolted it directly at the rear brake bridge and it split directly rear of the bolt hole. When I replaced it I put in some nitrile rubber leftover from flap making, was a good shout.
