Shimano Ice-tech are not floating rotors, they are composite rotors comprising a steel friction plate rigidly fixed to an aluminium carrier-cum-heat sink

nope. The point is heat dissipation, also they should be stiffer than one-piece steel rotors. I have Shimano Ice-tech and they're stiff as hell, without any play.
