This is not meant to be a proper gravel bike (for that I have a Pickenflick and just ordered a second 650b wheelset for it), but a city commuter able to occasionally wander somewhere not become too bored with the same route of commute every day ;) So full mudguards would be definitely higher priority than wider tyres.
As @Pawlus said I was looking at the Renegade, but the Escapade, Reynolds 631 with carbon forks though.
I am not sure how a full alloy frameset might feel but as @Simba suggested, you could get wider tyres providing there is room left on forks and chain stays ( I think the Exile comes with 700x36) and lower the pressure or even get a 27.5 wheelset and fit even wider tyres.
