  • I don't know if anyone has any experience of the Danelectros at that price point but I know I wasn't impressed by the pickups on my budget Gretsch - sounded very gritty to my ears, not anywhere near what I expect a Gretsch to sound like. May be something minimised by the deeper sound of a baritone, but it's the only advice I've got. Plus, Japanese rock guy.

  • I think I'm actually leaning towards the Danelectro, the only thing I've been worrying about is the Danelectro build quality/ whether it might feel like crap to play.

Worst case scenario I have a guy who can fabricate me a new bridge for it and I can replace the tuners so there's no reason for it to have tuning issues I suppose?

    Edit:

Danelectro 56 Baritone in Sparkle Black (older model w/ 3+3 "Bell" headstock) is on the way from Thomann.de which was the only place I could find a bell headstock one (not overly keen on the "Dolphin" headstock version). Would have preferred a plain black one but there was a nine week back order on it and it won't be a big deal to give it a respray if I can't cope with the sparkle finish (looks quite nice anyway).

Have also finally found a TC Electronic RS212 cab for sale in Ireland for reasonable money so picking that up next week. I'm excited to have my favourite amp setup back together (albeit downsized).

  • Not sure if you can still get them but I have a telecaster blacktop baritone in sunburst and it’s awesome. In my old band I primarily used it for fuzzy Kyuss style chugging through a bass amp which it did really well. Sadly I’m ampless these days but it’s my go to sofa guitar now, it’s just really nice to play.
