  • Yeah, I ordered them already but JRA are on hols for a week.

  • Friend wants a new rimbrake wheelset. Road, shimano, budget up to 300.

The superstar components deals are over as it seems. Apart from Fulcrum racing 4, whats out there that makes sense?
There was a link to some ebay kinlin etc wheels a few pages back I can't find anymore?

  • Push the budget a little and get some handbuilt Kinlin+Sapim+Bitex from someone reputable.

  • Good advice. Basically Hunt but made to order. Problem is that we are in Germany, and getting wheels build here feels pretty expensive and I don't know anyone stocking kinlin.
Add to this that the bike that needs new wheels cost 450 euro to begin with and 300 is a lot even if it makes sense.

  • These: https://www.merlincycles.com/dt-swiss-p-1800-spline-23-clincher-road-wheelset-700c-108397.html

Or Fulcrum Racing 3 or Campag Zondas are all solid, wide and nice and light.

  • Have a look at cnc-bike, they may have some interesting build options. Think they do custom too.

  • Suggestions or anyone selling cheap 12mm thru axle, 25mm rim front wheel?

  • Rose will do custom builds at good prices. Not sure how good their choice of rims is but the builds I know of have been fine.

  • Didn't think of them. Strange as I ride a frame from them. They have novatec with DT Swiss 460 for 189€!
Not exactly lightweight but a very nice price.
@miro_o will make him check. But also not sure on rim choice.
    Thanks!

  • I've just got some 21mm internal (28 mm external) carbon rims. What's the narrowest tyre I can run safely on them? ERTRO says 35's?!

  • 28s, 25s at a push.

  • Sweet, was hoping 26's would do the trick.

  • This is what a "25" looks like on a 21mm rim. Given how much a tyre designed for a 13-15mm rim will blow up on a big rim, I think you could probably get away with a lot of "23" tyres.

  • It lives! It's alive!

  • Suggestions and thoughts on a new wheel set. Got a windfall recently and have upgraded my ride to disc. Just need some help Picking the disc wheel set. So far I’m torn between the following:

    1) Zipps new 303 NSw

    2) custom build with either Chris king R45D CL hubs or White Industries T11 and carbon rims ( something like Knight Composites)

    3) something else

Wheels are going on the race bike and I’ll be riding them largely around Bristol and Wales, so lumpy. I’m 82kg if that helps.
    Budget Β£2k

    Thanks Team.

  • 3) something else

Hunt and 2x trips to your fav cycling destination

  • These are for racing? Bit mad to spend Β£2k in wheels that will get crashed at some point.

Tart hubs to lightbicyle would be my choice.

  • ^ this. Then you can make a decision in a few years whether to replace with tarty rims or more from the LB.

  • +1 for Hunt Wheels. Windfall or not, Β£2K is too much to spend on bicycle wheels.

  • Thanks Team.
When I say racing, I actually mean fast group rides with mates and doing the odd TT and triathlon, but I totally get your point. Β£2k is better spent elsewhere.
although not carbon rims avt.bike have THESE

  • You could build a like for like (weight, rim profile and width) wheelset with bitex and kinlin for less than half that price, with an optional upgrade to Hope .. it will be serviceable at home too.

With Hunt, they are pretty much LB rims and the hubs are most likely bitex/novatec, if you were to source these on your own it'll still go at the Hunt price so why not support a local brand and get great customer service too.

  • 6 bolt hubs on those CKs. No thanks. I think it depends on the bike. What is the bike? For me, CK on a mass produced carbon whatever is a bit silly. However on a custom whatever, it just makes more sense. But that’s just my stupid NAHBS ideology.
