Hereditary, near perfectly paced first half, had me holding my hand to my head with my jaw agape for about 3 minutes at a certain pivotal moment as they manage to capture raw emotion /horror perfectly and do something I've not really seen done in a horror before.
then it almost immediately descends into a shitty by the numbers spirit horror where none of the stuff really connects with each other and the longer you think about it the less any of it has any real bearing on the ending. by the end they are just tossing out random horror tropes and cgi effects that looks like they spent all the money on the (amazing) model scenes shown throughout before reading the final act of the script and realising they needed special effects.
wouldn't surprise me at all to find out the first hour and second hour were directed by different people.
