  • also: are we now in the "let's discredit the legitimate concerns of people by dredging up examples of stuff other people have done that no one gave a shit about then so i win" phase of discourse?

what a time to be alive.

  • The last couple of times I've been to Italy, one pizza on the menu in this land which is supposedly all about authenticity is Pizza würstel e patatine (and this is on menus in places where there are no English translations, full of locals):

Surely if Italians love sausage and chips on a pizza, anything else on there is fair game?

  • Didn’t the Italians steal pizza from the Greek pitta?

  • No because I think the racial elements of bastardising Indian or Caribbean food are part of a bigger narrative of making frightening immigrant cultures safe and palatable.

    Like UB40.

  • Called Pizza Americana in a lot of Italian restaurants in the south

  • Would eat. Just needs a large amount of brown sauce.

  • food should be exempt from cultural appropriation allegations.

  • jamie oliver is still a wand, though

  • brown sauce.

Bit racist, but yeah, totally with you on that one.

  • Up North pizza with chips on was always called a 'London Pizza' on the menu, huge dissapointment when I actually moved here and found this to be a lie

  • apropos recent food chat:

    https://metro.co.uk/2018/08/03/cultural-appropriation-of-food-is-not-ok-so-i-wont-be-watching-gordon-ramsay-uncharted-7791627/

i think this has some good points. apols for metro link, couldn't find it published anywhere else.

  • brown sauce.

Bit racist, but yeah, totally with you on that one.

In brown sauce news; would recommend Laila Tamarind Sauce from Morrisons.
40% tamarind to provide a welcome sour tang.

  • bastardising Indian or Caribbean food are part of a bigger narrative of making frightening immigrant cultures safe and palatable.

Its a starter , an introduction , a gateway to the world.
    Like 1960s package holidays.

I bet these bastards are at it ...

  • There's only one alternative to brown sauce

  • talking of sauces the best chip shop / Chinese takeaway curry sauce I have had is made by the mother in law. if anyone finds them self in or passing through Froome get chips curry sauce from Chung Ying take away.
it's amazing they make it from scratch with fruit and other bits can change slightly according to what has sold as other bits that haven't go in to the sauce if applicable but the basic recipe is great.

sorry for family connection plug but it really is a great sauce been on at Missis Rich G to get it bottled and sold.

  • oooh yes mixed with kewpie mayo on the octopus ball things, can't rember there name

  • any way food thread >>>

  • Caribbean-inspired dish

    see the diffs?

and the comments are the predicatble "but what about tescos selling fajitas ackchewerly" rib ticklers from edgelord liberal cunts that read the guardian.

Did anyone notice how Levi Roots was wearing a suit and tie on television? How dare he culturally appropriate my people's traditional dress and customs.

because when all's said and done, everything has to be regurgitated through the filter of how any given event affects white people.

  • would it have been cool if pillow tongue had used 'Caribbean-inspired' in his description?

the guardian have blatantly published that article as click bait, given the furore over the jerk rice, to make moneys off the advertising. = appropriation?

    this whole thing is absurd.

  • Tako yaki. So delicious.

  • ^^ i suspect it would have been a lot better than having straight up used a word he clearly has cock all understanding of.

it is absurd, but it's also gone a long way to highlight how the concerns of minorities are often dismissed by people in search of a cheap lol or a thinly veiled jab.

and those comments are just 10 pages of self amused arseholes making the same shit joke.

  • ya mo be there next weekend. will try

  • Yum. Anywhere good for these in that there London? (preferably easily accessible from Kings Cross / Kensington)

Hang on. Isn't this supposed to be the news thread?
