anybody bought an SMP copy recently?

• #7178
Yes, but not put it on a bike yet. CSB...
My kids have enjoyed pretending that it is a horse and riding it around the front room
Want to see some photos?

Anyone know of a black tapered (1-1/8" to 1-1/2") full carbon road fork (43-45mm rake, caliper brake) with clearance for at least 28mm tyres (preferably 30mm)? I bought this "SmileTeam" fork on eBay some time ago. It fits 25mm (Schwalbe Ones on Kinlin XR31T rims) but cannot quite fit 28mm (some very slight rubbing).

Yes.

Any opinion on these? Not been following the thread too closely so I don't know if it's come up before. Ta.

My Gaciron 400 lumen front light has been going strong for a couple years now.
-
• #7188
Thanks, just checked it out and looks good. I did see they do a 1000 lumen job. Overkill for the commute right? Right?
-
• #7189
The 400 is really bright, I've used it in the pitch black without problems. I imagine the 1000 lumen one would be good for MTB at night or something when you want to see all the things. Imagine the battery lasts a lot less too.

Anyone know of a cheap Aliante (Ali-anti?) shaped saddle? Ideally black.

Any stem/riser combo that’s tried and tested? I’d like carbon but I also like my teeth...
-
• #7193
I've still got this

Can't guarantee your teeth though

If you're still doing the hipster thing with a D-lock in your belt then these braided ones are awesome. At $19 they're not exactly cheap, but I'd say the good quality means they're still decent value at that price.

MEN'S ELASTIC ELASTIC BELT
Went there hoping it was a kevlar and unobtanium belt that doubled as an unbreakable bike lock. Am disappointed.

Last week, I got [from eBay] a cheap carbon-wrapped alu stem to replace a Cinelli Ant. I was thinking it was going to shave valuable grams off for the same dimensions... IT IS HEAVIER. The seatpost and bullhorns I also got are appreciably lighter, so two out of three ain't bad. Assuming this isn't a big dental bill in waiting.

Even full carbon stems aren’t lighter than alloy. They have to withstand quite a bit of force so need to be built thicker/heavier
I had a carbon Pro Vibe stem and the alloy version of the same dimensions and it was about 25g lighter than the carbon one. -

... bullhorns
link?

Most of them, but that's because it's expensive to do it right.

Thicker, maybe, but not heavier if you make correct use of the lower density yet stronger and stiffer material. Making a carbon fibre stem is not really any harder than making a carbon fibre frame. Unfortunately, it's not really any easier either. I imagine that almost nobody bothers because it's a tough sell; 30% off a frame is a pound saved, 30% off a stem is only an ounce. Only the most dedicated weight weenie is at the point where spending €20 for each gram saved is low hanging fruit.
