  • I'm finding the shock and horror expressed about the various gravelly parcours quite amusing, they look like the kind of terrain I ride for fun.

  • Admittedly, not with 4000-odd km around them...

  • Fancy pairing up for an attempt?

I'd ride my Straggler with Conti RaceKing 29x2.0", we could take all the crazy shortcuts.

What am I saying? I haven't even ever bivvied yet :-/

  • Must be a good party, hippy's there.

  • Josh coming up to the finish now too, he seems to have gained 2 places over night!

  • I know someone who was kidnapped recently while cycle touring in Macedonia. His story is one of the most terrifying things I've ever heard. He managed to escape and had to hide in a forest while he heard his kidnappers searching for him. It was like something from a movie.

You have to keep your wits about you. Googling suggest Macedonia itself is a bit of a hot spot, with a few stories for refugees heading West of similar incidents. I imagine this is a very rare occurance but it's put me off a little, particularly solo in Macedonia. Stay safe out there!

  • Rubbish. Its safe and people are so kind.

  • Found my ride. The big one for the long flat bits, use the little one for the fun parcours.

Admittedly, I've never ridden a motorbike, and we still wouldn't be as fast as Skinny...

  • I'm sure they mostly are. But there are always exceptions so when in the wild, you can't expect everything to be ideal after hearing all these stories.
I had no clue until I was told about such stories.

  • I'm sure you can get problems happen to you in rougher areas of... well, let's say everywhere in the World, including major cities.

  • There's a guy stopping and getting trains for long stretches. I won't name publicly but sure you could find if you wanted too.

    Weird as.

  • @laner and I had a pretty weird experience within a mile of the airport in Skopje...

  • #85 is the first rider to take a beautiful scenic road, longer but with less climbing, along the river. Interested to see how it will compare to the usual route in the end.

  • And #42... oh my! He's now in Montenegro but it looks like he went over an unmarked border crossing - if he didn't get his passport stamped - he might have serious problem on the way out!

Seems he's over the border into Albania with no problems.

  • There's a guy stopping and getting trains for long stretches. I won't name publicly but sure you could find if you wanted too.

    Weird as.

Surely if you just want a nice holiday where you ride a bit and take some public transport, there's better ways to do it than that

  • Do tell in PM

  • Just as well that Albania doesn't have any railways.

  • Is he still in the race?! Or just trying to get to the end?

  • So the Hostel movies are real!
    :)

  • From Facebook, not my own calcs:

So looking at the CP4 to Finish time puts Matthew Falconer's sprint
finish in to perspective. James Hayden 2days 2h 17m Bjorn Lenhard 2days
    4h 10m Alexandre Le Roux 1day 23h 43m Matthew Falconer 1day 15h 53m
    Really impressive.

  • yeah still riding, just getting trains for a bit.

I fogot who now, I'll ask again.

  • An Ode to Brompton.

  • Nah an Ode to Bikes on Trains in Europe.

  • Bendy Bus in takes nonfoldable bikes scandal.
