Weird. Maybe he's lost the plot from sleep debt.

Looks like #42 reached the border and turned around, maybe can't cross there?
[edit] oops... just seen the above :)
-
• #2529
Oh no! Looks like cap42, Marin de Saint-Exupéry, has not been able to cross the boarder between Bosnia and Montenegro on the goat track route they're on.
Edit - been watching the dot so intensly I didn’t check the above posts!

A little research into previous years should have brought that to light.
A few got over a few years back but they then locked it down. so it's be a gamble now, one that doesn't pay off

Yeah, it's... unusual.

253 have been incredible from the start.

And now #42 has gone for another dubious checkpoint - the locals only one straight into Pluzine...
-
• #2535
Does that one actually go to Pluzine? Is it fhe gravel one.
-
• #2536
Yeah, the northerly one that he's headed does - its gravel on the Bosnian side.
The southerly is also another dodgy border.

Daum, #5 Matt Falconer really seems to know how to suffer. Extremely impressed with his riding!

Just found out #97 Anna Petters is a local (to me) female rider, go go!

Stéphane has just been live on the ‘Gram.
In a bike shop in a deluge. He is physically strong but totally pissed off. He was going well until the CP4 parcours when he punctured and couldn’t repair it. He is now in the bike shop belonging to the former MTB champion of Bosnia.
He said would would have scartched if it had not been cheaper to cycle to the end than bus or train it.
For all his protestations of poor morale the one thing that comes clearly through is that he is one hell of a tough rider with incredible determination.

The last 80km is solid climbing. so I'm not surprised. it's 1500m or something stupid.

She sent me a message an hour ago, locked in the loo at a petrol station, she might have lost her place. I was tempted to call them and tell them, she got out though.
Last night I got a series of voice messages about some drunks in a petrol station. From the tone of her voice I suspected something dreadful had happened. Turns out that she asked where she could get something with protein, and two of the drunks left. She was outside the station with one guy hanging around, and one of the others reappeared. She was a bit worried, till she found out that he had been home, boiled up four fresh eggs and brought them back, still too hot to eat.

Cap253's now routed back onto the road that everyone else to, so not going to pile on down the flat area in the west of Albania. Could be he didn't fancy more climbing as the route everyone else took has a lot more elevation, at least to my highly untrained eye.

I've never encountered anything but extreme kindmeas when on the road. I've similar stories and a lot of them from Albania.

Avoiding Tirana by the look of it. Possibly wise at it's pretty mental.
Oh dear - cap 42 finally reached the Montenegro border (at the dubious crossing mentioned upthread), but has now turned around again. Unable to cross there I guess.
