  • if skinny or geraint don't win SPOTY and it's that guy in a waistcoat, well........

  • Oh cap42... hope you’re doing ok Marin, looks like that route isn’t going to get any better for a while.
@7ven hope you’re feeling better already, and that you are beginning to realise that what you have done is an insanely impressive and fantastic achievement.
    @skinny congrats. Just awe inspiring.

  • Well, it's not as if football is more popular than cycling, so ...

  • Anisa Aubin now seems to be the best-placed woman, although FRRT 'only' puts her in 61st--I mean, it's not as if she entered the race with any other race in her legs .. oh wait ...

  • It's a gravel road he's on. Not all of it but sections you can see on street view. It's not the right route but it is shorter so looks it.

Yes, I checked it out when I was planning my route
I don't think Bjorn spent as much time on his route this year. Last year his route was good (I was his dotwatcher so I looked at it closely).

  • Anisa Aubin now seems to be the best-placed woman, although FRRT 'only' puts her in 61st--I mean, it's not as if she entered the race with any other race in her legs .. oh wait ...

She might be sounding out Nelson to see if there could be a wildcard entry for SRMR!

  • 42 seems to be trying to walk through the hills between R703 and R435.

[EDIT] Ah, google maps shows there is some sort of road there, no idea of what surface it is.

  • it's Ede Harrison I think.

  • Yeah doens't make sense to me, maybe he's had otehr stuff going on.

A shame. But he's a fighter and deserves to win a spirit of the race award, so much grit.

  • @cozey There is also Coach and Team awards given at the SPOTY awards waistcoat and team ( should be Sky) win those. G get the big one. Good if there was a campaign to get G. it.

Skinny for unsung hero perhaps ?

  • A shame. But he's a fighter and deserves to win a spirit of the race award, so much gravel.

  • It seems as though he may be getting a lift there and back.

  • You can only take public transport can't you?

  • Don't think so. If you stop someone passing by or even call a cab that's surely available to everyone?

  • The Race Manual would probably have more info, but it's only available on the rider part of the website (which isn't open to mere mortals).

The public rules say "all forward movement along the route must be human powered" (or similar) which doesn't rule out a lift to/from somewhere off his route ([EDIT] assuming he takes a wheel and not the whole bike)

  • Great race @skinny - really well deserved after all of the hard work over the years. Enjoy the holiday!

  • Expect twitter servers to go into meltdown after hippy gets signal from cp4. he's going to love it.

  • No a public lift is fine if bike broke.

Just can't call a mate to come pick you up. but once your bike works you have to use it.

I had to cycle 20km back on .myself a few years back once bike worked after a lift from police.

  • Reminds me, really need to sort out a way to automate scraping trackleaders for rider data. Have a few ideas for analysing the data.

I should probably talk to Ivan to see how he does it for frrt, or just scrape frrt itself (it shouldn't be too hard to get the data from the polyline stuff he uses for map displays).

  • argh! the race for 2nd is killing me!

  • It's a really tough rub it. you need to keep feeling as there's 2000m of climbing. Border is just about the high point in middle.

  • Bit late to the congratulations party, but @skinny you're such a champion. Obviously capable of ludicrous things on a bike, and your manner and execution of the past two TCR victories has been awe inspiring to dot-watch. You're a brilliant role model, for those into cycling and beyond. Again, coming from someone who is a total stranger :)

  • I just watched the last ~12 hours back with the replay on trackleaders and Bjorn and Matthew have been neck and neck for a lot of it. Matthew's been going for 26 hours though while Bjorn's had a rest. I think it'll be tight right to the end.

  • Bjorn will be 2nd easily maybe 1h30 advantage.

  • Forget Twitter, I think he's going to break the internet itself!

Oh and chapeau! An amazing ride from you again.
