anyone catch any videos of the check points or anything of the kind yet?
would be cool to have some drone footage that follows along some riders. -

Yes this year there's a rule that you have to ride the CPs in numerical order.

Indeed the points are usually accurate, but freeroute then just tries to guess the part between those. So on that example, if the points are far enough of each other, the most obvious route might on that bigger road and not where the route is. So you'd have to look at where the tracking points are. So yeah hard to judge and not much gain. And strava is indeed more accurate and the racer might be asked for the gps track if there's something suspicious.

So frikkin hot. I can't keep up with all the drinking. Just made a stupid detour to avoid Innsbruck wich resulted in short steep climbs. Climbing cp2 and 3 is gonna hurt so much :(

Skinny definitely riding faster than Bjorn on the same territory today. Hard to see him not making the catch somewhere in Austria.
Bjorn possibly had a better first day route. If their routes diverge and Bjorn has a better one again, he might gain an hour, but it would only put off the catch for a few hours.
Real pressure now - every minute not riding is giving the other an advantage. But Skinny is in control, he knows he can sleep as long as he wants and still catch Bjorn, while Bjorn doesn't have that luxury. It's a bit brutal but, if the other guy rides faster than you, there is nothing you can do unless he screws up or gets lazy and neither of those are likely!

Indeed, hard not to see last year's pattern repeating itself. Skinny is a machine, resting well, moving fast and riding his own race. Would love to see him against Alagaert one year.

Well, theoretically, you could also say that one rider needs more rest to cope but has so far been able to compensate for it by riding faster, but that's hard work and he might get slower or injured when pushing too hard. But it's James so probably not a problem.

Who would of thought that this year would be hotter than the last.

Does anyone have the link to the gallery with all the riders on? Tried looking back but couldn't find it!

Looks like 195 just started climbing the Grossglockner.
Must be nice to have ticked that "to do" box as a part of this race.
It's as if the rest of the passes were not good enough. To have a little fun with that type of philosophy, wonder if anyone will go to CP2 via Lake Como.

It’s on Kinesis Bikes’ Facebook page. Don’t have Facebook on my phone so can’t link to it.

Will cap 80 follow the path of 195?
Let's see how many others have been yearning for that pass. -

Yes, but it might not happen. It looks like Kristof may have lost interest in this type of racing after Mike was killed.
On paper, Kristof in 2016 was a good bit faster than Skinny last year. But Skinny is almost 20 years younger so has plenty of time to improve!
I think that @wheels_of_fire expressed interest in doing this at some point (or maybe I made it up!) but that would be very interesting -

Jurgen cap46 who started 4 hours late is in 14th place. (as per Free Route)
After such a rollercoaster start, that is remarkable.Sometimes it take a bit of adversity to get those legs to pedal.

Understandable, but something of a shame. Last year's front battle was great, but once James got ahead it was only going to finish one way. Would be good to have proper ding-dong all the way to Meteora. Hope it happens this year, but with Kristof in the race things would be very interesting.
Having wheels_of_fire involved would be very interesting. His Legoj record was ballsy as hell.

Bjorn not giving up: looks like he's stretched it back out to 40km. He went the other side of a lake to Skinny which might have saved him a bit of time (I'd routed the way Skinny went).
