1×10 SRAM would be well cheap for you to do no? You can get the shifter for £10. Bet you've got an Exact Actuation derailleur and GXP BB lying around? Add a Sunrace bargain cassette and chainset and you're done. Not as fun as 1×11 but ultra cheap.

Silent (or v quiet) through axle hubs - talk to me. What's out there apart from new XTR and Onyx?

10 speed 1x and one of these boys is plenty
-
• #11880
Mech no but I do already have an exact actu trigger now you mention.
Sram GX seems to go cheap though so could 1x11 with that from eBay -

Mo gears mo problems
I just "upgraded" to a 8-speed 11-40 Sunrace on one of my bikes. Bombproof.

In contrast, 10 speed would be a downgrade for me on any of the 3 bikes currently in the house :)

Was concerned about a 10spd 11-46 feeling gappy but it was completely fine. And I'm really fussy about these sorts of things. Plenty of people on STW reckon that 11spd Shimano wasn't all that compared to 10spd.

When I say upgraded I mean i went from 9-speed to 8-speed, haha
-
• #11885
Upgrade is one way of looking at it...

Forgot my wheels are non-boost so probably not of interest. You can buy spacer kits from hope but boost means stiffer wheel, which is nice for 29ers.

8-speed parts are absurdly cheap, the chain should last even longer, road and MTB parts are compatible and it's better for friction shifting. For my weird niche use case it was a sideways move rather than up or downgrade. But I was joking really, I don't think 8-speed is the way to go for many people. Certainly not your new bike. For a wide range rat bike it's nice.

Hub Spacing: 142mm x 12mm O.L.D., axle included
Will fit or no?
-
• #11889
Oh then it's not boost, they will fit!

I echo the comments on 10 speed being plenty for mtb. Never been tempted by 11. Just more clicks from top to bottom. Cadence is less important when mucking about in the woods. It's range you need.

Would go for the +20mm front so you can run a 180mm rotor and a nice long hose length for the rear.

Sram brakes... ew
-
• #11896
Shimano is too mainstream. Sram is edgy
-
• #11897
Shimano works though. Honestly, hard to find anyone that criticises Shimano mtb brakes
-
• #11898
Yeah I’m sure. Wouldn’t be as popular otherwise

If they need swapping over anyway, presumably they can be trimmed to length at the same time?
Yup.
Though I think you may need spare olives and barbs. -

I've been using budget shimano deore brakes for 3 years now and they've never let me down. Going to bleed them for the first time this week, suspect fluid will be like sludge.
I saw these, they were mostly <100mm travel though
