  • Looks like he was just riding at a steady pace without a working tracker?

  • Looks like there’s been plenty of sleep grabbed by some of the leaders (“plenty”) with Bernd Paul just about at CP1....
Kind of looking forward to being in work so I can dotwatch in widescreen - been restricted to Phone and iPad since start.

  • Wait... has Bjorn not actually stopped yet?

  • Doesn’t look like he has, nor has Bernd, who’s on the first parcours right now.

But James has been stopped 7 hours, and quite possibly had more sleep than me..

  • Good, thanks. Riding to work and getting more power back each week, but still dodging hills!

  • Doesn’t look like he has, nor has Bernd, who’s on the first parcours right now.

    Good to see different strategies.
Confident approach from skinny to take time for a proper sleep.
Bjorn and Bernd spurring each other on, only 1km apart. They'll get a lead on skinny, but will need to rest at some point so it might not be enough.
Skinny firmly believes that regular sleep is optimal and it worked well for him last year. But not everyone has used that strategy, eg Kristof sometimes skips a night and Mike was much less regular, riding until tired rather than until a specific bedtime.

  • Not suprised he’s had a good sleep. Massive first day. Over 28 km/h as well.

  • Hippy has done well: 7 hour stop and has pushed up to 34th.
He's been climbing this morning but following Bjorn's longer but less hilly route through the Black Forest

  • My friend Anisa is riding again, cap21, a last minute decision having only just finished North Cape -Tarifa.
Her hands and "saddle contact points" haven't recovered but she went to Geraardsbergen to see off some friends and got offered a last minute entry. She hurriedly prepared a route, put on new tyres and headed off. I'm not sure if anyone else has started TCR after racing 7300kms immediately before.

  • Craig Bachelor out.

    From Anna on Facebook:

    #TCRNo6 // Rider update //
Craig Bachelor rider 197 was involved in an accident last night and is currently in hospital. He is OK but has reported a broken leg. I've spoken to him and he's very disappointed but he insisted he's OK. No other vehicles were involved, he was on a cycle path and fellow racer rider 12 Stéphane Mehdi Ouaja was just behind him and called the ambulance and ensured he was in good hands before continuing himself. Craig has been in touch with his family who are mid flight out to join him. We are in touch and will help in any way we can. We are so gutted for Craig and wish him a speedy recovery.

We ask you all to treat this matter with the respect that the TCR community has always shown.

  • Horrible to hear that, he was putting up some impressive numbers. Props to Stéphane for helping him

  • Nails. Hope it works out for her.

  • As bad luck goes, that's pretty high up on the scale of possible incidents. Hope he recovers quickly and there's no lasting damage.

  • skinny should surely go past Björn and Bernd today with his sleep strategy?

As far as I can see, quite a few of the other top-30 people haven't rested yet, either, so hippy should go top-20 today.

  • shame you not riding this year dude but it is a massive bonus to us voyeurs to have the benefit of your insights on the race in here. Big thanks dude

  • Got some 28s, new tubes, new rim tape and just putting it all together now. Hope to be underway in about 20mins.

  • Great news!

  • @wence @frank9755

you guys have done the numbers! I rode along from France to Basel on the tiverbank once and it was very pleasant but looks like its definitely the inferior option. Traffic free, though!

    @adroit

That is pretty bonkers, wonder how she'll do? Will keep an eye on her dot.

  • hope the wind is strong behind you dude. and more importantly the new setup holds up. roll well dude

  • Hooray! Good luck dude

  • So Skinny rested 3 hours longer than Björn but was less than that later at cp1?
And looks like Stéphane only had one hour of rest.
Bernd has the second worst tracker after Hippy.

Also disappointed I couldn't find video from cp1.

  • Hope it rolls from now on!

    I've ridden it too!
I did a tour round the Black Forest and the last day was riding along the Rhine via Basel in the opposite direction to go back from Basel airport.
It is very pleasant so I looked to see if it could work for this.

  • That's proper nails. Much respek!

  • I spent a week riding round Basel - the black forest ride was my favourite. Such good riding there. I rode back along the river after riding over towards the Grand Balon - which I didn't end up climbing as my knee was giving my troubles. A whole lot of not much between Basel and the foot of the climb...

I want to go back and ride more of the black forest - this ride was great https://www.strava.com/activities/1031860908
