loose surface, not gravel, loose surface are pretty common on the road in the UK.
They're fine to climb, it just feel less stiff rather than squirmy once you got the pressure spot on for you.
You mean some debris that is laying in tarmac? Or tarmac that consists of more small stones than tarmac itself and therefore quite rough?
