  • I don't bother with that, just ride until hungry, stop, ride until sleepy, stop. Maybe I should plan more and then try and hit daily distances.

DT Swiss star ratchet kit = £70 = get to fuck, i'll just turn up my music.

  • I'm leaving my front mech alone - I bent it back into place in Charlottesville and it worked until the finish. Make a bit of noise when extreme cross chaining but that only happens when I'm testing the gears.

    Why is your headset squeaking?

I used clips on my dynamo - didn't want any joins I couldn't redo in the field. What dynamo do you have?

Started downloading RWGPS offline last night but think it stopped. Will check tonight.
I've got existing maps from previous TCRs I'm using.

You're doing the Eurostar shipping - that worked well for TCR4. There were some other riders on the train. They never have enough Leffe.

  • It's mostly the second part of the course where I'm adding supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants with opening hours. Don't know how bad coverage will be so rather have that info offline. B-H, Montenegro and Albania are outside my roaming plan so almost no internet on that stretch.

  • Reminded me I need to switch from O2 to 3 but in the meantime need to top up my 3 SIM.

Population density is very high in Europe so unlike the US you don't tend to have a 100mi stretch with a couple of big mountains to climb with zero in between. Oddly enough it's normally France with everything shut all the time that's the trickiest.

  • I'm with Three. Looks like all countries except Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania are part of the Go Roam countries.

  • Until it stops working in all countries.

  • To shut dt ratchet up, pull off the freehub, clean, lube(dt red Grease) and put back on.

Will be quiet for 200km :)

  • Thanks, but I'm now the world leading expert at pulling these down and relubing them.
Except I still don't have their special grease. I silenced the freehub by putting so much TP42 to in that it wouldn't engage at all for the first few minutes of use. But after a while the crunchy starts come back again. At least it hides the noise my knees make while climbing.

  • Why is your headset squeaking?

The top cap was directly on top of the stem and making some noise. It's not making any noise now there's a spacer between stem and top cap and been retorqued . Seems to have gone away. Headset is brand new.

I used clips on my dynamo - didn't want any joins I couldn't redo in the field. What dynamo do you have?

SP PL8X 15mm TA . Just soldering the Igaro and lighting cables together. As they kept coming apart where twisted.

  • Squeaking sounds like it's moving. Why is it moving, is more what I getting at?
    Double check that shit.

  • SP PL8X 15mm TA . Just soldering the Igaro and lighting cables together. As they kept coming apart where twisted.

Are you using the plastic clip? Mine are twisted and clamped into that, no problems.

  • There's plenty to eat the further east you go, and they are more likely to be open!

  • And it's cheap. SMASH ALL THE BAKERIES!

  • I know I'm probably "over-preparing" but that part of Europe is a big unknown for me and I feel anxious. :)

  • Anxiety would be nice, all I feel is angry that yet another component has failed and I have to waste more of my life covered in grease hitting stuff with hammers for 10mins. If I wanted to be a fucking mechanic I would've got a job as one.

  • Handily, all my unpacking from TABR is still strewn over the lounge floor so packing should be pretty painless/quick... I'm leaving it until the last minute so there's no chance for me to panic buy anything else this year. #hippystoptcrtips

I quite like the look of this. Quite savvy for orders to close before most riders have finished. The physical damage is enough of a souvenir.

  • I don't see any details. :S

  • Ah sorry, weirdly enough you have to log into the registration page and it is now one of the forms. This is what it says:
"Thank you for your interest in pre-ordering a copy of the TCRNo6 Newspaper.

We are proud to offer a new project for TCRNo6. ‘Hot off the press’ the Transcontinental will bring you news of the TCRNo6 race delivered direct to your door, featuring the race’s stunning signature photography and insights from the race reporter and production team.

The project will be run in a similar format to a crowdfunded project – with a target number of orders required to get it off the ground – and the paper is only available via pre-order. It will be sent to press just before the finishers’ party and arrive with you shortly after.
TCRNo6 Newspaper will be available for order from 25th July 2018 to 10th August 2018.
    "

One copy £12 ,two is £20

  • Unless it features me as a centrefold (the only way I'd fit, inb4fat) I'll wait..

  • 35°C commute. Nice warmup.

  • You'll get used to it (maybe). TABR is much worse than Europe -5 -> 45 and the humidity out east is mental. I still have scars from the sores you get from riding day after day with skin never drying out. It's a glamorous game this.

How come we had a name: Lucifer last year but this "heatwave" (lol, a summer) doesn't?

  • Be funny if it was a hotter race than last year

  • 42c going up monte grappa was no fucking joke - i hope to hell it doesn't get hotter than last year!
