It's an agenda driven by large payment systems companies who want to erect an oligopoly on consumer financial transactions by exploiting people's laziness (and it's not 'what consumers want', it's just cleverly marketed). Card payments (mainly by credit card) have over decades lured people into accumulating enormous debt because the value of what they're doing isn't clear to them. It also records every transaction with full personal details. Also, obviously, leaving you with no choice. It's utterly stupid all round.
