  • Oh, so this is where all the lovely shed pictures ended up. Nice bikes too, but that shed...

Edit: someone make that gravelle thread, I'd like to build something for my girlfriend in a couple of months

  • Thought about tagging you, so you could put it on ignore ;)
The grey Arkose is a bit too nice for pub trips and her old beater is a horrible Dutch bike that's falling apart. I bought most of the bits for a nice, but not too nice everyday bike: A Centurion ladies sport frame, a Wald basket, silver Chromo Plastics and some other stuff. Build a decent wheelset from Rodi VR17 rims, an XT front hub and a low end Shimano rear hub. Couldn't find a JIS headset for it, but was pretty sure I had one some where, so went through my headset boxes today. While I was at it, I cleaned all the random bits in there and sorted them. Now I just need to decide between a cartridge Shimano 600 or a non-cartridge Tange Aero Levin. And find a bunch of frames to fit all these other bits onto...

  • Not very cycling related content coming up:
I've got a Citroën Berlingo which I've wanted to convert to a sort of micro adventure vehicle. No kitchen, cupboards or similar, but just space to put a mattress and a bike. Pushing the passenger seat forward only gave me around 185 cm of sleeping space, which is at least 10 cm to little. Bought a passenger seat from a Peugeot Partner as they fold all the way forward and that would hopefully give me around 210 cm from the hatch to the back of the folded seat.
Started out taking out the old seat and test fitting the new one.

  • The van seat is bolted to the floor and doesn't slide on rails. I'd hoped the van and people carrier versions would have the same floorpan, but unfortunately not. In the end I used the old seat rail on one side and fabbed some bracket between the rail and new seat base. Had some 5 mm steel that was the perfect thickness as a spacer and bracket. Some drilling, grinding and tapping later I was almost ready to bolt the new seat in.

  • Pulled the carpet back, made a few cuts in the floorpan and bolted the new seat base down. It all went together surprisingly easy. The new seat doesn't sit as far back as the old seat in the rearmost position, but it is still useable for tall people with long femurs. I managed to transfer the seat heating to the new seat and I'm almost done reupholstering the new seat with the old fabric which is ugly as sin, but at least it all matches.

  • A few pics to illustrate how the new seat works and to show off the fancy seat back table.
With the seat folded forward I ended up with 205 cm of floor space. Now I just need to finish the upholstery and make a platform/base to put a mattress on.

  • In slightly more cycling related news the stash sorting continues with the beater for the lady. Got most of the parts fitted, but need to sort a JIS crown race.

  • Hopefully the sun is out tomorrow so I can sort some decent pics for the for sale ad...

  • While I await the re-arrival of my Hulsroy frame, some bits more bits for it showed up. Blackburn Cargo cages and a couple of £5 Altura drybags. Wanted some from Alpkit as they'd match the seat- and bar bag, but these will do while Alpkit restocks.

  • Cool!

  • Just bought some blackburn cages as well actually! Nice slim profile, look super solid.

ps. plz keep that e-stay for your self and weld a disc tab on plus a taller headtube and anything cage mounts on the "front" and bottom of the two downtubes. Also just imagine the killer custom framebag you could strap in that rectangle! (and a tiny one in the small triangle)

    so many possibilities..

  • That'd kill the lovely paint :/
But yeah. @Hulsroy said the same thing and I'm slowly coming around to the idea...

  • That would be so good. + anything cage or mini frame bag in the gap behind seat tube for maximum ridiculocity

  • I have a massive Wald 157 'Giant Delivery Basket' in the garage as well.

  • Hnnng, you'd be King Basketpacker! It was meant to be

  • .

  • Which ones?

  • While I was spending the week along the Danish west coast ParcelFarce managed to deliver my @Hulsroy frame. As the Berlingo camper wasn't fully done I had to settle for my moms VW. Really made me miss my old one and I've spent a few nights doing man maths and looking at ads. I need a real van again...
