Surely you're buggered if something breaks and you're electronic? Would have to break the cable no?
-
• #953
Yeah, maybe, I dunno. I've finished 2xTCRs and 2xTABRs on Di2 so I'm like... whatevs!
I'm sure something will fail eventually and I'll have to deal with it - same as everything else.I've never tried running 11spd as SS so I look forward to setting that up at 3am, up a mountain in Slovenia.
-
• #954
Yes - that was on 10-speed. It worked fine. Did about 150km on it.
-
• #955
I've ridden 11-speed as singlespeed when I hadn't charged the Di2 battery properly. The first time I used it, I thought I'd charged it up via my laptop, but it stopped front shifting about 20km into a 300km, so I just chose my favourite gear and spent the rest of the day in it.
I guess it would be hard to fix a cable as securely as a Di2 mech with a flat battery is able to

Trying to run magic gear. There was not much RD left.
And it climbed to the bigger cog, so shifted down. -
• #957
Well, yeah, I've ridden Di2 with a flat battery too, so I guess that's singlespeed, good point.
I'm thinking more along the lines of smashing the RD and then trying to limp along with a shortened chain though like the other peeps are talking about. I don't see why, if you still have it, you can't just use the limits on the RD. If you don't have an RD then you're gonna be riding magic gear and it's going to be shit no matter what.
-
• #958
Guess it depends on what you have left of the RD then.
-
• #959
Presume you were in the middle of the cassette?

Get some lipbalm with SPF and UVA/B in it. And some 10/20 euro notes, you can use this instead of local cash (if you smile nice) in most places, if you don't have local cash.
-
• #961
Yes. Trying to get chainline right.
Everyone just start the ride with straight RDs and don't break stuff, ok?
-
• #962
I lost my lipshit during TABR :(
I think the only place I don't have cash for is Albania.
-
• #963
Albania? What way are you going... the long way?
-
• #964
I can't find anyone's solution to 11spd SS... but then again I can't really find anyone breaking it badly enough to need SS. At the worst you have to walk up hills and coast down them until you can get a lift to a town and find a bike shop able to repair the mess then get a lift back. I'm not changing to 8spd or something just because there's a slightly better chance I may be able to fix something that hasn't happened yet.
-
• #965
Yes. I've never been to Albania.
-
• #966
Oh, I was going to show you my route. I've done fuck all since the other day. Busy trying to get money in the bank. I'm out tonight. I'll show you my ultra fast, race-winning, legendary route soon.

• #967
Albania? Mate do you know how to read a map!
I bet you're going to Hungary too.
Noobs.
;)
-
• #968
Yeah, of course. Because I liked their bike paths and banned road detours so much.
-
• #969
Does brexit mean I can ignore them? Because they're like cockraoches and pop up randomly.

Yeah and much of streetview is out of date anyway so there's more out there than most routes would cater for.
-
• #971
How does avoiding numbered roads word for avoiding these signs?
I swear every time i look the road warning leading up to Sarajevo keeps on growing, sorry bout that.
-
• #972
Numbered roads? You mean like A3 or something?
I have no idea, I don't really pay attention to road numbers. I just drag shit around in RWGPS, maybe look at heatmaps, maybe SV at junctions or just hack skinny's account and take his... -
• #973
Yup, in Hungary it is just 6 or 53, i'm tempted to just stick to provincial roads to reduce time in SV, maybe consider them if i have time.
-
• #974
Some of the main roads have cyclepaths, which vary in quality, but are likely to be direct.
From having dotwatched last year, there are no rules, you have to check each junction.Obviously, while you would want to stay on legal roads, if a road has had a 'banned' sign put up since streetview went there but it looked like it was ok when you planned it, you are unlikely to be penalised for it because the dot watchers can't know it has been made illegal. However, if you deliberately route on one that you could / should have known was banned, you will be!

Smash up any google street view cars i see, got it!
Starting to feel it might be easier to just go around at this point.
It's all about the electrickery.
