  • friendzoned.

  • Publicity seeking wanker.

  • interesting that the thai prime minister has confirmed that the boys had been given drugs to help them focus... modafinil?

  • Argos catalogue with the smartphone section earmarked.

  • They said that they had been given a mild sedative and anti anxiety drug to help them not panic in the tight underwater sections yesterday.

I'd be surprised if they wanted the kids to be wired during the rescue...

  • They'll be in quarantine on Sunday which means they won't be able to go to the world cup final. Maybe I could have their tickets?

  • I just saw a video of the Elon Musk sub, what the hell was it supposed to do inside that cave?
My guess is that by now Musk is surrounded entirely by sycophants.

  • Its not a submarine. Its a pod with an air supply. Probably would have worked fine if needed.

  • Either that or jellyfish.

  • Reporting that all the Boars and coach have been rescued. Great fucking effort world

  • Trump will claim the credit ! Somehow

  • Too claustrophobic too. Every time I see the cave on the news it makes me feel ill.

  • When I heard it on the news I imagined a coastal cave like in the beach, what made the kids think that would be a fun place for a birthday party I have no idea....

  • If the Thai case has piqued anyone’s interest in subterranean shenanigans then I can highly recommend Blind Descent by Tabor. Fucking fantastic book with plenty of gut churning moments. Really goes into cave rescue/body recovery logistics...

  • One of the things in Boris' resignation letter was:

when I described my frustrations, as Mayor of London, in trying to protect cyclists from juggernauts. We had wanted to lower the cabin windows to improve visibility; and even though such designs were already on the market, and even though there had been a horrific spate of deaths, mainly of female cyclists, we were told that we had to wait for the EU to legislate on the matter.

I vaguely remember this at the time but can't remember much about it and whether what he's saying is true or twisting the story to fit the agenda. It doesn't seem to have been included in the analysis of his letter but I assume that someone on here may have a better idea giving the subject matter. @Oliver Schick maybe?

  • It’s not true and can easily be debunked in 5 minutes using Google.

  • Yes, I suspect nothing Johnson says about the EU is ever true. :)

As for the specifics, I didn't follow it, but @Charlie_L will be able to tell you all about it.

  • Ah, more stuff has appeared from when I googled it yesterday.

Looks like parts of it were technically true, mainly we were told that we had to wait for the EU to legislate on the matter and France and Sweden weren't keen on the legislation.

So true in that the UK couldn't make its own rules, bollocks when he suggested that that proposal is supported at every level of UK government

  • My knowledge of EU law is pretty poor, but why couldn't the UK implement its own separate legislation on domestic policy grounds? A bit like France used to do with its odd engine sizes.

My reading is that his point was to have the EU rules include an express set of rules around cabs. That would have obviously had a greater impact as it would have been an EU standard. But if there was a will surely there could have been work around to force it through?

  • It's pretty clear he lied about the UK government support part but unclear whether or not the interesting point that the UK couldn't bring in their own legislation is true or not.

I'd guess that if the UK brought in their own legislation it may face some restraint of trade challenge but my knowledge of EU law is also pretty poor.

On a related topic, on further reading it does appear that the EU has delayed introduction of the legislation until 2024 (or possibly 2022, different articles had different dates) in order to appease France (Renault) and Sweden (Volvo) which is pretty shitty.

  • I'd be interested to know how long it would normally take a manufacturer to design a new cab layout, test it, get it crash tested and start making it and selling it.

  • Maybe that's why the UK didn't support the change either, pressure from truck manufacturers?

  • Son of a senior police officer... said officer called daughter-in-law shortly before officers attempted to interview her...

Not to use words like perverting justice or anything, but this case already stinks and it’s only getting worse.
