Aluminium also, but I guess it might be stronger than the stock one because it's 6061 billet rather than cast? I dunno. Looks nice, and was cheaper than the stock part

testing "new" classic wheels (mavic reflex 32h tubular rims and shimano dura-ace hubs)

Cool ! Hummm not aero but light and stiff

• #120105
ZONA ?

the dura-ace 7700 hubs (for 9 speeds but works just fine with 10) are so smooth! I love to ride with them! The rims with 32 spokes are stiff too so it's perfect for climbing and gain speed quickly (not as good when the idea is to ride fast for many time).

Yep

Looks fast! Not mad on the goldie looking chain but otherwise it's a lovely build. Rapha tape?
-
• #120109
Yeah rapha tape, the pink matches the cable housing which persuaded me to blow 30 fucking quid on bar tape. It's also dreadfully wrapped which I guess I'll redo at some point. The gold chain is purely for the benefit of the goons on Something Awful: gold KMC chain is a thing/in-joke there (I also quite like it).

Lost mojo so put some parts on this to try and get the love back.
-
• #120111
I don't get all gushy about carbon fibre but that's a future classic. Given the times you've hauled in on this I think you'll get the love back. Other news I couldn't leave the short rear brake cable outer on the Fanini alone, even though it's going to be a huge ball ache to redo the handlebars, God I'm OCD... But it's worth it...
-
• #120112
Could you just add an inline barrell adjuster and add more cable behind it? If it has stops on the top tube it would work
-
• #120113
Do them again and if not perfect, redo.
Welcome to the OCD club. ;) -

the idea is to ride fast for many time
: )

• #120115
Ok Zona and it's good ? How does that ride?
-
• #120116
Lovely build, well done!

Feels less harsh than my 90's Brain frame but a lot of that could be down to 20mm internal rims vs. 15mm. Generally feels really balanced: not twitchy like an older race bike but still fast through corners. Zona's the midrange tubeset so probably a bit heavier than a spirit/life frame but it seems nicely made, filets are all well done.

Some snazzy alu to liven up my road bike life
Can't decide to wait until I have cobbled together full ultegra 6800 for it (for maximum newbike satisfactions) or to just throw my 4600/5700/7800 10sp cobbled together mess onto it to get it running
-
• #120120
Does that mean that stem's available? ;-)
I have some spare 7800 bits if you decide to go that route. -
• #120121
Is the yellow biek CDF?
-
• #120122
The aggressor? From the Goff?
Thanks, I don't want to invest any more money in the 10speed setup tbh though -
• #120123
it's a day one with a machined hanger :)
-
• #120124
Ah no, the Alter, ha! I know you're keeping it though :-)
-
• #120125
thanks ;)
Calling this done now. New wheels, tyres and fork. Happy with the fit and it's my lightest bike by a fair bit at ~8.2kg. Wheels were a punt on a cheap BiN on ebay but they turned out fine once I removed the dodgy zipp decals and gave the front hub a bit of new grease.
