  • It’s time.

A decade since we drove home from Berlin after our final ever 11 nation euro tour. We split up due to musical similarities and an urge to live in entirely different continents, instead of living in a merc splitter watching the Danzig singles collection or Alan Partridge.

So I’ve a 2001 ish Femder Jazz standard bass; ash & maple - 34 inch neck. It’s a thing of solid beauty and was the main bass for recording & touring. It’s graced the main stage of Reading & Leeds, Fuji Rocks and every uk & European toilet venue possible.

Mike Kellie used it once, and Kate Moss grabbed it back from a crackhead chancer during the libertines support band years. I’ve also hit Brian Molko with it. That was satisfying.

Despite this, my Bill Wyman stage style means that it’s in good nick- with the usual belt rub, and one small dent in the back which happened when I was knocked out whilst playing in a wrestling ring by a dwarf Mexican wrestler. Blame Sean McClusky for that and for Joeboxers.

Comes with the tweed hard case, unused bridge covers and receipts etc. Bought from Tin Pan Alley when that was still a thing.

Second is an Ibanez artcore semi hollow body bass in tobacco. It was the rehearsal guitar - the neck is wider so makes anything else afterwards feel like you’re playing a thin necked Danelectro. With an over drive pedal your The Birthday Party / Cure dreams come true.

On top of that is all the bits; a Boss tu3 tuner, a sans amp DI v2 box which replaces any need for an stage amp unless your lead guitarist is a twat. Which is always, so it’s a great fuzz, overdrive thing & recording staple for the eq,. Plus a bag full of super long leads which I think we only bought for a cheap gag at Bath Moles where we were supporting razorlight and got to the point where we couldn’t be in the same room as them so had leads long enough to play upstairs whilst the stage was in the basement. I think it was funny at the time. I don’t think out drummer did.

I’ve no real idea about the guitar values, so talk to me. Are they in the hinterland of untrendy, where is best to sell them - reverb, ads in studios or gumtree / eBay?

Forum % on sale price obviously and I’m keeping the thunderbird for the occasional home windmill and potential band reforming cash in tour. Shed Seven watch your backs... still strangely big in Japan though according to the £0.32 Spotify royalty cheque I got last month.

  • I'm interested in the Jazz Bass but also no idea on prices. Once you work out what's fair let me know and I'll give it some thought.
