They could have timed this very badly. Looks like they will be massacred by a thunderstorm.

i think thats why they leave the nest, flant day is usually a pre cursor to some bad weather / rain
they exit before the nest floods ... or something -

They were coming out from under the kitchen units at home; god knows how they found a way in; I've not seen a single ant in there before the other morning.
Then this morning.... flants everywhere. It's not going to be pretty when I get back...

The air was thick with them in places on my commute home tonight between Canary Wharf and Clapton. Had that unpleasant thing where they get in your hair. Ew.
Was just talking to my friend about this and he reckons it always happens on a humid day - I can't remember tbh.

They were on the picadilly line just now - heading west from Green Park. Bastards!

Yep...had exactly the same this morning, walked downstairs and there were about a hundred ants wandering around having never seen one yet.
Put a bait box down which they marched to and from for a couple of hours and not seen them since - expecting all the winged ones to be around tomorrow now...

No flants in Walthamstow, just wingless giant ants all over the pavements. Lots of dead ones too.

been sensing it these last few days, lots of individual flants and ant activity in general
they know the rains are coming
