  • Broken shifter of my own + ~£4 broken eBay shifter = working shifter.

Just need a broken left one which I can gut and pair with the empty right one for a set of fancy carbon single speed levers.

Loads of people must have spares as these shifters break all the time, only takes 5 mins to repair if you've got the parts. If you've got a broken one give it a go. Could have saved myself ~£70 months ago if I'd known it was so easy.

  • Can you get spares though? I need the cog part of a ratchet for a set I have (don't remember if right or left). Last I checked you couldn't.

  • Unfortunately not which seems like a major oversight on SRAM's part. Definitely poke around on here though, I posted a spare/broken ratchet bit to @MCamb after the plastic cable retainer bit went. Also @Jules used to have a dead one which I was going to buy off him, not sure what happened to it.

They come up on eBay pretty regularly for not very much, you'll want one that is broken at the shift lever, broken brake lever or cracked on the plastic housing. I have read that some models are incompatible with each other but both @MCamb and I managed to repair them without knowing which specific model was which.

Also the Red shifters supposedly have a stainless ring which is a lot sturdier and less prone to the teeth breaking off, but I don't know whether they're compatible or not. Maybe someone on here has one of each and can try swapping over the internals for the greater good

Edit: also @Jaap says the left and right ring are interchangeable - maybe he knows more about it. My left shifter definitely had different bits to my right one though.
