This explains a lot about perceptions of time in subterranean London. Have you ever had to wait more than 3 minutes for a tube train? Ugh!

So there's some bloke who I've started to notice more frequently, generally around the east central / clerkenwell area. Wears a purple helmet (don't) with some kind of small stuffed toy hippo or something tied to it.
Rides like an absolute fucking muppet and is a liability to himself and everyone around him.
Anyone seen him?
-
• #13657
No but I do see Dexter Fletcher around that way a lot and he too rides like a muppet.
-
• #13658
No, but will keep an eye out.

I once helped Dexter Fletcher swap his Barclays Bike for another one as his had a puncture.
He seemed un-muppet like.

Watched someone ride slowly into the back of a parked car on Marshalsea Road this morning whilst attempting to filter. Amaze.

Ive seen this dude I think. Is he always way overdressed for the weather? He does indeed ride like a twonk.

he's nearly hit me twice riding up onto the pavement off the road, once a few years ago on a boris bike by farringon road and again recently on a town bike just st johns street, I'm sure he's a lovely bloke in person but he rides like a bit of a dick based on my experiences.

First time taking out my new relaxed tank of a commuter this morning and I'm very aware that it's a slow and stately ride with a coaster brake and that I should err on the side of caution with some filtering. I decided to wait in traffic rather than squeeze down the left of 3 cars and one van just to get to the front of a queue that didn't even have an ASL (Hornsey Road/Tollington Park junction). Lights changed and I went to set off and two guys decided they HAD to bomb through the gap between me and the car in front/to the right of me so they wouldn't have to give up any speed. Just why? Thank fuck I gave a quick look and didn't commit to setting off or we would all have gone down.

Clearly he has it in for you, have you upset him in some way? Did you say something rude about "Press Gang" while he was within earshot?

Did you go for the Pilen in the end?
How was the ride apart from the idiots?
-
• #13666
Maybe he thought I was Jason Statham so shot over to say hi only to get closer and realise I'm more ruggedly handsome and swerve away at the last second.
-
• #13667
I did indeed!
Ride is great although they did insist on setting the saddle a bit lower than I need while I get used to the coaster; will move that up a few cm in a couple of weeks. Definitely giving me the chilled attitude I wanted for a commute. Racing for the lights just feels wrong on it.

I nearly absolutely annihilated some goon who was riding the wrong way down a bike lane. I pulled out of a side street on to the main road on a fully loaded Bullitt, looking to the right for traffic, not expecting anything from the left. To be honest, I see it all the time so I'll be looking out for it in the future.

He is, last time I saw him he was in a thick black jacket (I think he mostly wears black) despite being over 20c.
Being totally overdressed for the weather seems to be a common trait in terrible cyclists.

There is a guy I see every day from the train on Elephant and Castle station platform who has a folding bike and the most clothing I've ever seen on a cyclist, including massive waterproof trousers. He has been wearing the same gear since January. I'm betting he is a terrible cyclist.

Yeeeeees! Love the pic - they're stunning bikes.
Enjoy!

Suit wankers on fold up/boris bikes with reflective waterproof trousers suitable for the Arctic, but still has their non-waterproof office shoes on. Also never shoulder checks and cuts you up when randomly darting between the two distinct lines of bikes on the super highways.

Bellend of the commute by way of sheer volume of annoying interactions goes to this guy (fluoro helmet, brown patches on rear triangle) who managed to cut me up 5 times between oval and kennington park road without looking behind himself once, who then decided he'd try squeeze in front of me at every set of lights or positioned so he drifted from one side of my bike to the other every single time. ended up dropping my speed and riding covering the brakes just so I could keep him where I could see him and wait for him to do something else stupid. that's when I got to watch him undertaking other riders instead.
camera doesn't show just how many times this fuckknuckle made me brake while he weaved in and out of my wheel line but it was a lot.

• #13674
not going to condone his cycling, but you could have just held back a little and let him do his thing?
just give the guy space and slow down a little..

just give the guy space and slow down a little..
unless you've worded this poorly are you implying I didn't give him space and was going too fast?
umm where? lets go to the tape...
00:01 - I was travelling at a speed slow enough to brake when he pulled out on me with no indication at the start of the video. I then sit back until we reach the lights where he just veers across my wheel again, i'm going slowly enough to anticipate and stop in time.
00:31 I sit back and let him veer across my wheels twice then I sit 2 bike lengths behind him the whole way along the seg bike lane even though he's positioned to turn left until he veers across again at the last minute overtaking only when the road widens to 2 lanes with no traffic to my right.
1:26 at the next set of lights he pushes past on the far right of the lane about 5 seconds after I stop, he then immediately drifts left straight into the group of cyclists all trying to go straight on. again I wait for him to move before overtaking as he's moving slowly and the lights had changed while crossing and I wanted to clear the junction.
1:38 at e&c I'm rolling to a stop and he comes up from behind me on the left and positions himself into my path, the lights change and I let him pull away and across from l-r again with plenty of room.
2:04 next set of lights I'm literally at the front of the pack, I have to wait a split hair for a turning van so he accelerates past and immediately pulls in front of me, again I sit back and let him do his thing all the way through to southwark bridge where I see him undertaking not one but two bikes.
fuck me what an inconsiderate speed freak I am.
There needs to be a bike friendly way to cross the river in east london.
