  • I didn't know this thread existed. I must remember to put up a picture of my long thin shed, tomorrow. A good excuse to post pics of my bikes...

  • Anti bike storage

  • This is what I thought but 3 rear wheels later I'm beginning to wonder... That said they have been fine with the set up for a couple of years...

  • Here's mine.

  • Opens at both ends for ease of access.

  • I must be doing something wrong but I tried installing a Clug today to hold my Genesis Equilibrium horizontally and it doesn't seem to be able to hold the bike's weight and get it to balance. Has anyone experienced this before?

  • Here's a distant view of mine...(I am not either of the featured artistes).

  • Assume you mean vertical rather than horizontal, but clugs aren't supposed to hold weight. They just hold the front wheel still and the rear wheel rests on the ground.

e: just googled and it looks like you can use then horizontally and hold the back wheel. In what way isn't it holding the bike up? Is it too loose?

  • I think I've found two things that were potentially not helping. 1) My flat isn't level so putting the clug in place based on the flat didn't help, I will set it up again with a spirit level. 2) I was trying to have it stand up with the front wheel in which would mean more weight to support away from the wall.

I'll report when changes are made

  • I was going to add "just like yo momma", but decided against it.

  • Hi storers! I'm after suggestions for keeping 8-10 bikes in a garage.

Space isn't really an issue, but tidiness, access and security are. Attached the space in question. The back wall is 2.6 x 2.1 m. Once I've got the bikes and the back wall sorted, I'll arrange the rest of the garage accordingly.

I read most of this thread and no solution quite meets my needs. I'm thinking of storing them vertically up-down-up-down in two banks of 4/5 with a gap in the middle. The Clug looks like a good bet, but you can't store bikes facing downwards, plus you have to buy different ones for different tyres, meaning each bike gets a permanent parking spot, which I want to avoid.

I like the idea of resting them on one wheel on the floor and just having some hook on the wall to keep them upright, rather than bearing all the weight. I worry about damaging rims and/or expensive bieks crashing to the floor.

I've seen some designs where a horizontal scaffold pole with sliding hooks on acts like a kind of tie rack for bikes, so you can change positions, but I can't reconcile that idea with keeping a wheel on the floor.

    Anyone got any tips?

  • What about a load of hooks in one of the joists? You could hang a bike from each hook. Very cheap and easy.

You could even have two per bike and hang them by the handlebars?

  • 👆🏼This.

  • The Airloks seem to be working well so far. I'm hoping no one will test the solid secure gold rating.

  • rather than bearing all the weight

The bikes weigh 8-15kg? Nothing compared to the forces going through it when you actually put 60-80kg of rider on it, let alone hit a pothole. Hanging a bike by a wheel is simply not a problem.

I'd go for hooks at alternating heights, but that doesn't deal with security.

With that in mind I'd probably have 6-8 of the lesser used bikes hung vertically with a heavy chain running through the frames and secured at each end by a big bastard padlock to something solidly attached to the walls (like a ground anchor).

Then the remaining 2-4 bikes at ground level (on either side) locked to concreted-in sheffield stands for ease of access (regularly used bikes).

Bonus points for getting all of the padlocks that take the same key. (And d-locks for those attached to the sheffield stands).

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Two ends of the spectrum there in terms of cost and security. I'll have to check with the landlord to see what I can drill etc.

Right now my big chain is the fattest one Homebase sold. No idea how hard that is to break.

  • Any good solution to lock bike (on wall) if using storage hook?

  • What is the go to SECURE bike storage that I can lock my bike in outside the front of my house and not worry about it still being there in the morning. I'm thinking this sort of thing (to store 2-3 bikes)? Thoughts/experience?

  • I’ve got that one - seems secure enough, though it’s not been tested by anyone to my knowledge. Also have a ground anchor and chain inside. Takes 3 bikes no problem but my 29er MTB is a bit of a tight fit lengthwise.

  • Thanks for the reply! Is it made by Asgard? I just grabbed that image as an example of one that looked fairly robust. Keen to hear you and any other experiences of ownership before I drop ÂŁ500+!

  • Yep, the Asgard one. Seems robust, with 2 bolts and three point locks on the doors. It’s got something like 150 screws holding it together and all the fixings are hidden inside. Easy enough to assemble - I’ve taken it apart and moved it twice now. Not sure how much I paid - I think it was about ÂŁ600 with the optional floor and delivery. You can bolt it down to the floor too for extra security but it weighs about 17 stone empty so it’s hard to shift.

  • I don’t think the Addition version was an option when I got mine, which is the high security one.
