  • Looks like he's having a blast!

  • Coming up to Bridgewater. Averaging an outstanding 23.7MPH. Wind still coming from the West at 12MPH

  • Does anyone have a route profile? Wondering if he'll find it easier to hold that speed now he's out of the wrinkly bit of the country.

  • It’s on the previous page at the bottom of the ridewithgps map. I think the answer is probably not, still a lot of up and down to come

  • Speed is always hugest at start. It’ll drop at night and into tomorrow for sure. But might be a little quicker this afternoon if low traffic or stuff in his way.

  • According to TopoFusion DEM (which shows a lot more climbing than ridewithgps, not sure why):

Distance	Cumulative	Sector	% cumulative	% sector
    Mile 100 09,850 9,850 13%	13%
    Mile 200 18,370 8,520 25%	11%
    Mile 300 26,800 8,430 36%	11%
    Mile 400 35,700 8,900 48%	12%
    Mile 500 43,810 8,110 59%	11%
    Mile 600 51,160 7,350 69%	10%
    Mile 700 61,890 10,730 84%	14%
    Mile 800 71,620 9,730 97%	13%
    Mile 840 74,106 2,486 100%	3%

  • Well it was a tail cross down the wirral so slightly favourable for his warrington projection .

  • This is from a couple of hours ago. Still going strong and still ahead of schedule.

  • Progress is looking very good!

  • RRA 24hr record (edit: not yet) gone! Come on Mr B!

  • As of 7.16 am
    Next Control: CP34 08:15, 9 miles
    Next Control ETA: 1 hrs
    Track: 462 miles
    Route: 492 miles
    Estimated DTF: 347 miles (1st)
Last report: 7:05 Jun 16th BST (9 mins ago)
    Average route speed: 21.3 mph
    Estimated climbing: 6965 m

  • Almost! Unless he's going so well that he managed to do 24 hours in just 23 ;0)

Absolutely astonishing so far, keep going @wheels_of_fire !!

  • Oops! Definitely misinterpreted he twitter feed!

  • That confused me earlier, I was sure @wheels_of_fire started at 8 a.m. yesterday, so thought he must've knocked the record out the park.

    Amazing ride so far, chapeau!

  • Xc weather saying a prevailing tail wind.

  • Persisting it down at the mo, say the Twitter team.

  • He's doing fabulously well,. Still seems to be a bit up v schedule despite the shit weather. Main thing he still has a tailwind, although he might lose that later today.
He should feel better once it stops raining.
Still s long way to go though. I expect he will have a bad patch at some point this morning. But he looks like he has a great team with him who will pick up on that quickly, like when he got cold, and make the right decisions.
The second night will be immensely hard so far too early to think it's in the bag, but it's very much still on. Most attempts fail before they get to Scotland.

  • Sounds like he’s having a real tough ride. But we know he’s super hard. Hopefully the rain abaids soon and he’ll be ok. We know he can go the distance. Mental isn’t his issue, it’s cold.

  • Sounds like he has had pissing rain all day and now is struggling with shermers on account of not being able to keep his neck warm.
Time buffer gone but he's still racing for it. It's looking tough now but if he gets it, he's certainly earned it.
