  • Planar facilitis. It’s a bugger. Calf stretches and “tea towel scrunching” and anti inflammatories.

  • Yeah but you’re out there doing it, persevere and you’ll get back to form.

  • For PF I found rolling a golf ball (or tennis ball) around with the sole of my foot really helped.

    Still have a golf ball on the floor under my desk years later.

  • PF good stretch for me was heel drops/raises on a stair.

    Best to go see a Physio for diagnosis & advice.

  • Thanks to @HatBeard @rhb @doubleodavey and anyone else for the bag advice, I did a casual ~5km yesterday and the bag was great (with homemade compression straps and tightened up differently). Now I just have to commit to running more than 5km once a week.

    Edit: would like to run out to the nearby hills and camp with this bag at some point in the near future. Going to be a sweaty endeavour.

  • I know you're all religiously following my Strava running feed in the LFGSS Running Group. You may have noticed that I've been running solo in Burgess Park at night. Despite naysayers telling me I'd be shanked like a fish by a crazed bunch of stoned roadmen, there's been no grief whatsoever.

    Burgess Park is open at night. Are there any other parks in inner London (zone 1/2) that host a Parkrun, which aren't completely fenced off, and would be runnable at night?

  • Also, it's a year since I started running!
    Two half marathons, a few competitive 10kms and Parkruns, I am still very surprised with how much progress I've made.

    My weight seems to have stabilised around 66kg after the initial rapid shedding of bulk.

    Hackney Marshes is a sort of a park which is sort of in Zone 2/3

    It's 2.4 miles per lap, but there can be clouds of midges at night time. I've had many a midnight feast running down there next to the River Lea.

  • Golf balls ordered online. Hopefully that'll fix me cos I can't face trying to find a physiotherapist (that's the correct attitude, right?).

  • How much weight have you lost? I started last September and can’t believe the way running has changed my body, it’s kicked my metabolism in a way cycling never did. I guess I’m a bit more conscious of what I eat but not massively.
    Although I am a right grumpy twat if I can’t get out for a few days.

  • Tooting and Clapham Commons any good? Both have Park Runs and they never close.

  • Has anyone on here been so affected by the pollen/pollution that they've had to stop running outdoors, for a while? I'm a hayfever sufferer and take meds much of the year. My run on grass last Tuesday didn't end well and trying again last Sunday wasn't much better, so no running since. Only coughing up a small piece of my lung today, so progress.

    I'm not a gym member, as was using running/cycling + stretches for fitness/weight loss. I may have to revisit that option and review a mask for the commute.

  • Try getting out for a walk or run as dawn breaks*. Means 4am gettup at mo but I have found it to alleviate symptoms which then stay settled.

    '*Might be as effective as necking blue smarties, but its a change I made which means i'm hayfever med free with occasional bad day of symptoms instead of ongoing pills & sprays use whilst still suffering most days.

    @inchpincher dropped from 77-78 kgs to 65-66 kgs over the space of about five to six months

    @cafewanda thanks for both of those, I didnt know they had Parkruns.

    I've just looked at the route for the Peckham one, I can't tell if it's in the fenced off area or in the common. @GwGs maybe you know?

  • The Parkrun website has a map of all of the parkruns, just zoom in on Greater London and have a look.

    Each parkrun link will also have a link to a google map of the course and a description.

  • I'm surprised Parkrun isn't more popular globally; only 23 events in USA, 8 in France :/

  • Yes but does it say if they're in fenced parks or not? e.g. Southwark Park is not accessible at night.

  • You can't run the Peckham Rye park run footprint at night because it's in a closed section of the Rye if that's what you're asking.

  • Thanks for that. I'll see if I can get out of bed that early tomorrow and see what happens.

    The smarties is not a bad idea either. Could use it as a reward for that early start.
