I'm not sure exactly why it happens... Maybe it is down to lug length or thickness too?
Both of those are huge factors. The traditional width measurement doesn't actually help that much.
The lug shape and bracelet interface also matter - with bracelets you should really measure from the point of no flexibility.... but how on earth can you do that in a a standardised way?
Severity of profile contributes a bit too. Something like a Nautilus has very rounded edges, so even the bigger models slim down. Whereas a lot of dive watches look like they sit high.
On the digi tuna - were you tempted to get the Pepsi bezel?
