Fwiw a TAW rider has had Kinesis ship him out a replacement frame and arranged a bike shop to express refit his setup onto it, to avoid their reputation being shot!

It is. Plus the tube is likely double butter which means it’ll be thinner there and almost impossible to repair through a weld. You can fix a crack around an existing weld, you just add more material to it, but that doesn’t work in the middle of a tube.

Sleeve it? From the photo it does seem classic place for down tube to crack, closer to the HT and the tubing is stiffer.
Given that there’s a fork bolt (light fixing?) directly opposite to the crack then wonder if dented when spannering? Crack then starts on dent crease.
Holes drilled for di2 cables are problematic too.

I rode 300k with a cracked down tube and a zip tie. Mine wasn't all the way through though, it was growing slowly.

On such a hilly route I'd expect they're more of a hindrance than a help.

Really didn't expect them to be at the pointy end at the end of the hills.

I bet they drafted hippy to get a bit of an aero advantage.

Darren's frame isn't a Kinesis is it? I thought he had a J.ACK Laverack. Before it developed a fatal crack.

My Ti Kinesis is out of warranty so if it cracks I might enter an ultra to get a replacement...

Sketchy bit of the route, appears to follow I-80 for 15 miles. Almost certainly illegal and the speed limit is probably 80 or 85 mph.
