I’ve never seen real evidence of white being cooler than black, for cycling kit. I can’t actually find an empirical study, though I’m sure someone has done one. It’s not as simple as black is warmer. As black radiates heat also. The white might absorb less heat, but given that your body is a furnace in its own right the radiation matters.

If it’s hot I’ll ride in mesh, that’s actually cool.

But it’s like anything, each to their own.

Suggests that black clothes are only better in the shade, or if loose fitting.

Neither seem very practical constraints for racing!

Poor @hippy appears to be suffering both physically and mechanically. Black and red snot and his knee. Earlier there was a calf pain that he worried might be DVT. Add to that his brakes appear to be rubbing.

It he getting his excuses in early or should we be concerned? I do like hippy suffering but I would hate it if he didn’t finish.

Darren, on the other hand, is having an excellent ride so far. His meticulous preparation is really paying dividends.

Sounds like Hippy's Twitter complaining/riding balance is about where it was for last year, hope nothing more serious. He's placed well. Donncha, Tanja, Rhino also standing out to me.

Darren is within 13 miles of hippy which is immaterial at this stage. The leader is almost 100 miles ahead of hippy which is more significant. I am enjoying the women's and men's record feature which gives some context.

That’s not exactly a scientific study, which is what I want to see.

My n=1 study is that the BIGGEST thing you can do is wear mesh. When it’s hot I ride in just a baselayer. And if you really want to keep cool, slow down.

I survived 55deg days last year this way.
