Maybe you shouldn't buy a speed sensor.

GPS isn’t very accurate at recording speed, a sensor gives more accuracy.

Never really understood why one would use a speed sensor with a gps device. Genuine question.
Makes auto-pause work properly, rather than kicking it at random just because the GPS signal is weak or because the GPS engine in the head unit has decided to busy itself counting its toes for a while.

They're more accurate. Only used one for aero testing - wouldn't bother otherwise, for normal riding or racing.

Oh good. Doing it right.

If the GPS loses your position, it probably extrapolates where you are from last known position along your last known heading, assuming constant speed.
If it knows actual speed, it could extrapolate using actual speed data and make a much better guess at where you are along your last known heading.
Or if your GPS gets the wrong idea about where you are for a short period, from say reflection off buildings, and thinks you have instantaneously jumped 10m, if it knows what your actual speed is, it can rule that out as spurious.
I have no idea if it's actually implemented like that though.

I don’t pay, but may have signed up before they introduced subscriptions and kept some of the benefits?

My Bolt is recording rides, but it’s not syncing back to the app in results.
I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app.
To no avail. Do I need to sync the device to a WiFi network (if so how) or is it just the phone?
Anyone else already solved this problem? -

Pair the bolt with your app. Once paired go to the setting menu and there should be a WiFi section select WiFi enter password and you should be set.

I had similar stuff. Then it decided to re upload all of my workouts. So I had double if not triple of everything. Annoying.

I've setup the hotspot on my phone and connect that way too.

bought a new battery for my Garmin 800, installed it but it turns out worse than the old one, won't last for 12 hours. So instead of taking a battery pack with me on every long ride I have decided to buy a new device. question is which one.
currently looking at the Garmin 520 plus and 820 explore, as I don't need watts, heart rate, training programs or accurate speed display, not even phone or wifi connectivity, I just want to use it as a device for loading rides into, navigation and registration.
any thoughts amongst experts here about the differences between these two, or a good suggestion for something completely different (as I have a hate/love relationship with Garmin (hate the software, mostly))? much appreciated!

I used to use the SuperGps (partner still does).
Amazing battery life, reasonably usable.
Navigation is hopeless, companion app is hopeless (very slow to upload rides).
I've now got a Bolt which is much better (more user friendly/better app/better nav)

It's a photo of Darren Franks' setup during the 2016 TCR.
Unfortunately my Bolt drops out when I use sensors... should really talk to them about that.
