  • Mind dump:

keep De Rosa - for future, less German tyres
keep GB Track - for future, maybe upgrade crankset to DA or SG75

Either keep Surly, smaller tyres and bodge in some guards or swap Surly for something like a Genesis CdF/Kinesis 4S/Niner RLT/Kona or any road bike with disc brakes and room for at least 28c and mudguards and either a small rack or pannier rack. I only mention the Niner as it comes in quite a large size (62cm with compact geo, so should be 65cm+ effective, right?)

    and/or

Either keep Somec or swap for something a little more modern, lighter - i.e. a modern road bike

those last two could be combined if the new bike was a Genesis Equilibrium instead of a CdF or something custom if nothing fits right, but removing/putting back the rack would be a pain, no?

I think 4 is the magic number due to space, so can't really n+1. help!

  • popped another spoke on the WI x TB14s (i think they're 28 tho)
Geoff is therefore rollin' on some lesser BLB x Open Pros as of tomorrow, but with 25 and 28 c rubber instead of 23. had no idea they could fit!

  • Did a bit of work to the Soma today

    Done:
    ✅ PDW 45mm mudguards
    ✅ trim mudguard stays
    ✅ Garmin mount
✅ 32c rear RiBMo that I had kicking about
    ✅ 28c front Pasela :/
    ✅ tweak fit

    Definitely to do:
➖ matching tyres (32c RiBMo is too "tall" for the guards on these skinny rims and I only had one). Suggestions for fast/light/durable 32c tyre? Mainly road, with some path.
➖ Some sort of luggage solution, rear/front/lowrider/audax bag etc etc - will give this some thought.

    Maybe to do:
➖ Wheels with wider rims and more spokes...
➖ black Brooks C17 with cutout
    ➖ Ultegra
    ➖ matching finishing kit
    ➖ headset
    ➖ paint ?!

  • Ultegra

I'd be keen on the 105 if you make the switch

  • paint !

    Yeah...
I'd say get all the parts as you want them and everything else sorted first to make sure youre going to stick with the frame. Frame itself looks lovely but the colour leaves a bit to be desired. What do you think youll gain going from 105 to ultegra?

  • well it's in the maybe list, so not rushing, or seriously considering it... for the weight mainly. although I really liked SRAM Force22 when I had it on the Condor as well :/

  • Campag wheels and shimano groupset... u fuckin mad?

  • it was £560 all in. not complaining. I'll swap them out eventually, of course :)

  • suggestions for something similar to this, but more cheapz? http://www.stradawheels.co.uk/product/big-fella-deluxe/

  • Bitex

    Kinlin

    @broken_777

  • I'm sure you could build those exact wheels for a lot less.

  • I think I'll just get something like this:

Mavic Open Pro UST 32 hole. Shimano 105 5800 11 speed hubs, DT Swiss competition double butted spokes, brass nipples.

  • GB needs a set of those new alpina cranks for matchy matchy

  • good shout. it does indeed. and someone was after my miche primato cranks. I think this may happen!

  • o hai....been a while...

GB Track pretty much as pictured above. New grips. No complaints.

Soma going strong, bought back my Hope x Pacenti tubeless wheels but kept it as is otherwise. I haz a passenger now...it's a great bike. update pic below

  • Teaser shot. Going to prep 2 cockpits, risers (pre owned alloy Easton Haven / ODI longnecks) and bullhorns (pictured here with a temporary stem). Tacky fizik bartape is on the way. Got the original track forks included in the sale and the matching front wheel is fitted in the pic below, which I’ve destickered and wrapped in Paselas. Threw on my Goldtech chainring and temporary stem etc before deciding on finishing kit. Saddle is getting swapped for a slightly wider Romin Evo. Wheels... fine for now, but would like something wider/lighter. On the lookout.

  • You've got some beautiful bikes!

  • Thanks! I’m finding it increasingly hard to justify keeping the De Rosa but as I’ve got room for it for now and it’s sitting pretty, why not.

Aside from that, Soma Smoothie ES, Geoffrey Butler and now the Ridley Oval will be on rotation and cover all my needs for fixieskidding, shopping, commuting (lol) and longer rides/rides with the family.

Aside from finishing the Ridley, the only plans really would be an overhaul and service of the Soma, which is skipping gears and had an instance of the chain coming off. Needs some TLC after a period of neglect!

I’m sure I could achieve everything with one bike and get some money back but it’s starting to feel like life’s too short 😂 Just turned 35, still never owned a car and don’t use public transport almost at all. Happy days.

  • Same, never owned a car and very rarely use public transport.
Don't off the Rosa, you'd regret it!

  • bikes look so much better in larger sizes, lovely fleet! that soma!
