If a couple goes out an one party starts spouting offensive fundamentalist views or behaving inappropriately even without tacit public agreement people will presume the other partner shares those standards or tolerates them, no? I don't think that's exceptionally unfair or redolent of sexism.

Tolerates, maybe. But toleration doesn't make you guilty by association.

Why the ‘supposed’? She is his manager, she was then and she is now.

Evidence of said saltiness? My only comments on the Varnish affair that you may disagree with is that I think her performances warranted the decision BC made.

I don’t know if people have short memories but Froome’s sudden transformation from a crash-prone domestique who was about to be fired to a multiple GT winner was a mystifying and quite ugly affair, and Cound was part of that, along with him stealing friend’s rabbits to feed his python, the bilharzia excuses, the ‘crazy adaptive physiology’ that he had as Vaughters put it, the testing in Aigle that was supposed to prove his hidden potential all along.

It’s a bit like when I called Bouhanni a dickhead and we had several pages debating whether it was racist. Cound put herself in the public eye, at the centre of the debate, got into an ugly spat with Cath Wiggins, all at a time when we were all scratching our heads where this talent came from. It was messy and very bad PR, and calling her on it isn’t being sexist.

Because her actions and words were unprofessional and inflammatory in conducting a public spat with another team member's wife in public, during the biggest race of the season, and accusing journalists of being puppets afterwards. She was also involved in quite an unsavoury incident with another cycling writer who questioned Froome's health following his naked on a bike photo shoot last year which led to the final deletion of her twitter account. She is to management what Rudy Giuliani is to Law.

She works for him in an official role with tacit consent in addition to being his wife. He's one of the most public figures in the sport. He made no effort to distance himself from her remarks. You're deluding yourself if you think that doesn't mean anything.

How about if I edit the post and change it to ‘rabid manager’? Would that satisfy everyone with a justice boner? So I can be critical of her but in a non-gender specific way.

It's not the white knighting that bothers me-in other cases it may be perfectly justified-it's just that the usual people seem to pull up the smug moralising throne for a seat only at the instances where it isn't as if bucking the trend of public opinion is somehow a virtue in itself...
