Ultegra 6650 cranks are compact and nice while looking more traditional.
Would avoid 6700 or 7900 cranks. -

Yeah, I got the 6650 Ultegra SL in Ice Grey
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-ultegra-sl-6650-hollowtech-ii-compact-chainset/I presume they were cheaper because no one liked the colour or something. I don't give a fuck, I'll grind them into aluminium paste eventually so the colour is irrelevant.

My 1.5× system is going well. Just need a second set of cranks (in the post) and to replace the cage on this derailleur with a long one (which I have got, but the bolt's been rounded off by previous owner). Gutting the brifter was a bit scary as they're not cheap. Tentative plan is two wheelsets, 700c + 11-36 (may go down to 32 when this one dies) and 650b + 11-42. So I can do 42×11-36 road, 50/34×11-36 touring, 42×11-42 gravel with 650b.
When I've got all the parts I'll time myself doing a swap, hoping it'll only take 15 mins especially as the friction shifter only needs to be in the right ballpark to work. I'm really going to have to keep on top of chain condition, that's for sure.
Edit: Nothing wrong with chain length, maybe a tad too long but within tolerance (same one from the 50/34 setup). Not keen on that Hope chainring, bit ugly, but it'll do for now.

Chainring looking a bit wavy. What 5-bolt 34T can I fit in place of the Praxis Works that's on there now? Would like the same quality but cheaper so assume Shimano is about it but they're all bloody 4-bolt now.
Nice, if a bit spendy and not quite as low as 34T I've got.

What do you mean "wavy"? You tried undoing all the bolts and tightening them up evenly?
-
• #6585
No, as in look like waves, ie. they're more worn on one side. I know there's more life in them but I'm inclined to put new driveline stuff on when one race is 6700k..

Definitely no used rings. Also SG-X?
Did they make any 11spd chainrings that weren't 4-bolt?
-
• #6587
Thought it was for that Ultegra chainset, probably not read the thread properly.
All 11 speed stuff is four bolt but 11 speed chains work fine with 10 speed chainrings.
6700k - get yersen a belt drive

Nah, for a Rotor/P2M chainset. I found a NoQ 34T for less than £30 so I grabbed that. My outer is pretty new (although it's cheap) so I'll probably leave it be rather than pay £80 for a NoQ outer ring for little tangible benefit.

Shimano 12 speed on the way allegedly.
Edit- Shimano making an announcement tomorrow.

What problem are 12 speed groupsets solving? Though one could have said the same for 11 speed.
-
• #6591
And the same has been said for 10, and 9 and 8... Oh.

With 1× if you want a 500% range you have to sacrifice close spacing of gears. As a total guess I bet they'll keep going bigger and bigger until we get to 16/17 speed whereupon you can have a 10-50 with ~10% spacing between each gear (1.1^(17) = 5.05). That'll get you up and down anything.
Edit: On road it's not that big a deal. But if you're one of those people who really needs a 16t for some reason then 12 speed would let you use a 16 but go from a 11-25 to a 11-28/30/32.

Thought it was going to be their 1x specific stuff?

When will I get a Shimano dropper post for New Oxford Street?
-
• #6599
You know I was just thinking, I wish there were more chainring and freehub standards.
(Freehub is forgivable to get the 10t on to be fair)

The power that Shimano have in influencing standards mean they'll possibly stick.
That said, Sram have had the XD driver out for quite some time now
Also think I still have a set of FSA Vision Trimax in 110bcd I bought off @Scilly.Suffolk but never ended up using.
