  • Has anyone here made any straps from leather? I had a bash today. Turned out.... like my second attempt might be wearable.

  • I know @31trum has had a go at it...

  • Yea it’s all about the thickness and attention to detail. Quite satisfying though isn’t it?

  • Really satisfying. I need to get the next one a bit more refined. I made myself a skiving blade so that’ll be a bit easier next time.

  • Initially it sounded like he was going to do a full on gerald Ratner ,,,,,,, maybe he has. Thing is ,, even if people half know it , it’s rude and a bit smug to rub their noses in it

  • Actually the nerd factor is the allure that I would most identify with, I suppose. As a status symbol, I'd much rather a watch draw the eye of someone who appreciates it on a deeper level...

Don't kid yourself. The marketiers understand your demographic too.

Jusy look at the reddit buyer for life thread. Ops sorry I meant buy it for life ;)

  • I just did and i wish i hadn't! :-) How can sunglasses be 'buy it for life'? I can barely make a pair last one summer before i sit on them/lose them/break and arm or two off. I'm currently trying to find the sweet spot between disposable cheap and lenses that aren't like looking through a beer bottle.

  • They do many shit designs, but I like Bloc. Well made, fairly cheap and good lenses IMO.

  • Ah ok - they seem to do the default wayfarer shape, which I boringly stick to, so I may well give a pair a go. Cheers.

  • TK Maxx from about last week until September

  • This... Or Boots optometrists... they're flogging old stock.

  • for the heuer fans.. this for sale over at omegaforums

  • And apparently quite rare hence the hefty $9k price tag. Very nice watch.

  • Or this sexy thing, a steal at just $26.5k

  • I couldn’t. Could you?

  • ha! I've not really got in to Carrera / Heuer but I really should be given how much lust I have for that late 60's / early 70's racing dials, cushion cases and panda dials. I need to get a cheaper hobby...

  • ...you and all of us

  • I like Bloc

    +1

Excellent lenses and the same quality as Luxottica.

  • lots of vintage watches in Tokyo

  • What a cool place to browse, I guess Seiko would be the value brand, any pics of a case of cheap Grand Seikos?!

  • So after a slight boo-boo cleaning a mark off the dial, I saw base metal. That meant laboriously polishing off all the original coating, and seeing what super-shiny metal dial looked like. Awful.

Got around to doing this, this afternoon... primer, brush-applied texturing, permanent marker and alcohol to thin and make some depth. In the light the dark dark purpley blue texture is visible, now in the evening it looks deep black.

There’s an annoying little mark between 5 and 6, but sod that now.

  • Prince Charles was rocking one of these for that wedding at the weekend. Strong watch game.
