How much slower on tarmac are GK SK vs the file tread ones? Very noticeable?

What's the verdict on Open Pave vs Rubino Pro G+ clinchers? For combined puncture protection and riding comfort. Just got a colossal slit in my two year old Paves and need a fast replacement and going back and forth on Paves and the various G+ options. Danke

Ho Tho! Didn't saw your reply... Yep, now I rode that Panaracer Gravelking tyre also on some longer routes, in winter times and now spring. Actually I have no technical measurements compared to the compass I had, but I do feel slower with them – but that can also be the missing fitness. They are much louder, maybe because of the profile or mini nobs the Panaracer have. The Compass has these straight lines in the middle. But I got them for riding in all kind of situations, snowy, tarmac, gravel, etc.

I'm looking for a 28c tyre that's fairly puncture resistant, for commuting and touring. Been using 25c panaracer pasela tourguards on another bike and not really had any complaints. Is there anything better suited out there though?

Gatorskin 28c is my choice, but might be better ones out there.

A 25c Pasela is likely more comfortable than a 28c Gatorskin or GP4000.

After thinking about it, Paselas seem to come up small, so a 25c is possibly more like a 23c.

I've never got a flat with gatorskins. That said I have Michelin pro 4 endurance now and they feel nicer

Aren't gatorskins meant to be rubbish in the wet? For what it's worth, I've been very happy with the various sets of paselas I've been using for the last few years. Very rarely get punctures and they're good in the wet. Just wondering if there's anything else to consider!

They work fine, just if you ride like you would in the dry, you may likely to slip.

Something like a Durano 28mm would be good.

I’ve used Pasela and Gators before. Not a lot to choose between them.

I hated paselas but loved ribmos. Very puncture proof and good for skidding if thats your thing. Not too pricey either. I was using 35c admittedly but found paselas to be some of the slowest tyres ive used

Used 32 Gravelking SKs today in gravelly sportive. Did not work well at 45psi on grass or gravel. You tricked me, LFGSS!!

Durano or Durano Plus if you want really bulletproof. I've also got Rubino Pro in 28s that do well and are a bit lighter/faster than Durano but bit less durable.

What was the problem with them? They seemed ok on gravel to me. Admittedly, only one ride.

Lack of grip. OK on finer stuff but no better than file tread tyres I've used previously.

Ribmo are great. Longer lasting and more PP than Duranos, better ride than gators. If you can squeeze 32s the vittoria tyres I’ve got on the Thorn have been great so far, can’t recall the model but can check.

I think 32 might be pushing it. Ribmo sound like a decent bet. I'm a sucker for a gumwall though!

Having ridden file tread gks and the SK, I find the SK provides a huge amount more grip.

I have flatted many times on gatorskins and several times the lack of wet grip has nearly had me on my arse.

Vittoria rubino's are possibly worth a punt but there will always be a trade off between puncture resistance, comfort, pace and grip.

Amazing, I have the exact opposit experience (25c, 80psi, folding).

Compared to Clement Strada LGG. Maybe am expecting too much/poor cycling from me. Trails largely as below [library pic].

Rubber seems supple and grippy like a much more expensive tyre. Claims to have a puncture belt and I haven't had anything yet, only about 500 miles in now, so not a real review.

They seem to have saved some money by not finishing the tyres as well as proper branded offerings. Comes with the little hair/bobbles from the mold and a tiny little flap down the middle. I trimmed the bobbles with nail clippers as they buzzed on my calipers while the central bit wore off after a bit. Happy to do that if it saves me £20.

Is there a reasonably hard wearing 700 x 23c gumwall that won't break the bank?

Vittoria Corsa Control start at 25c but come up very big and I am tight for clearance.

The G+ are nice but found them a bit fragile for getting loads of miles in.
