Had a similar issue and opted for the triumph tiger 800. Got an 11 plate cheap off the bay and it came with full luggage as triumph had offers on. Fully recommend. I had an issue with am iffy battery so required a breakdown van and the guy told me he was always picking up the new BMW GS bikes due to electrical issues.
On another note does anyone have a suggestions for driver to pillion comms system as planning a drive to the girlfs parents in the summer. Apparently she might want to talk to me on the drive....

Thanks guys. An adventure bike seems like a good choice. My insurance would double but cheaper running costs vs a car.
Liking the Triumph at the moment.
Will have to mull it over.
