  • I'll look into it but I wouldn't have high hopes...

  • This is the 600ss in its current state.

Plan is to swap forks for a set of 749 Showas I picked up.
Fit a Ricambi Weiss 888/851 front end and failings with a round headlight and then custom fabricate a seat unit with integrated tail lights.
Front wheel will be swapped for something five spoke or wire spoked and then considering making some alloy moondisc covers for the back wheel.

Mechanically it's just going to get a good once over to make sure everything is tickedy boo and some custom fabrication for the exhaust.

  • Aw yis. Constant project update pics please.

  • Possibly, either centre or else something short and stubby down low? Progress has been appallingly slow as I keep spending on bicycles and I need to splurge on all of the panels for is it next so I can see what steps will follow when they're fitted! Don't hold your breath on this one ;)

  • I don't know. I think centre subframe exhaust smells a bit too modern. Especially with the trellis frame. GP style or twin yet slender rocket lanchers on either side will be in keeping with the look. The low slung clip on is a must though. It'll need to break your spine for your £'s worth of joy.

Also, get rid of that dog bowl clutch cover, and black wheels.

  • Anyone have any smart tricks to getting the rear wheel out when you only have a side stand? (Other than getting a paddock stand / fancy bike jack thingummy)

  • Stick a few bricks or something you have to hand under the swing arm, in front of rear wheel.

  • I have ‘tripodded’ bikes on front wheel, side stand and a car jack on the swing arm, frame rail etc.

Similarly, rear wheel, side stand and car jack in a more forward location to get front wheel out.

Used to have a tool box which was just the right height to be used like a motox type stand, rock the bike up on the side stand, slide tool box under and lower bike back onto it.

  • Bottle jacks are dirt cheap onto wood under the sump - watch your stability though.

  • Currently have my ktm on eBay, should I specify cash on collection only?

I’m imaging PayPal fees are gonna be ridiculous and also kinda worried about falling victim to some sort of scam. Is it unreasonable to expect someone to bring a couple grand in cash?

  • That was how it worked for the last century

  • Or bank transfer. Normally happens instantly now a days.

But cash or bt. NOT paypal.

  • True.

    Specified cash on collection only.

  • what ktm you got?

  • Would love to test ride it before you get shot :D

  • Cool, I’ll get in touch n organise something.

  • Is that a carbon swing arm? Holy torsional rigidity if it is.

There's a 1990 ish vfr400 near me for £1500. Probably exactly what I should buy, ate they appreciating in value now or is it jist that good whole/not smashed and written off multiple times examples are rare? I suspect 1500 means it'll not be a good one.

  • Ah the baby.

    What you moving too?

  • 250 Virago. It’s from 1999 so a bit of a project.

  • Go for it - after a good ol listen to the engine - these things were well made - famous handling etc.

  • Kind of thinking of getting rid of the car as I don't use it enough. Would be looking at a motorbike instead.

I'd need it to do motorway travel, nipping around the city and having enough storage options to going camping with.

Unfortunately I don't have a garage or driveway to keep it in/on but should be able to sort something secure in the front garden to attach a chain to.

I'd need to hire a bike and pass a full test beforehand but that's not a problem.

Any suggestions? Not bothered about a plastic bullet and a full on tourer would be too much. I'd be buying a used bike.

  • BMW F800GS, something like that would fit the description. Honda Transalp maybe. If you're using it in London you'll need to think ULEZ which I think means post '08 for most bikes, so a lot of the good cheap options get ruled out.

  • Motorbikes are all horrible on the motorway. And they get stolen. Keep the car.
And use hotels instead of camping.
