  • Damn, my course best on H50/8 is 1:51:39 (which is about half my 100 PB on E2).
    I don't think I've done an ECCA 50 but my 50 PB is 1:47:18
Fuck this, need to get back to the E2. I'm going to register with an Essex club next year.

  • Can I be 2nd claim in an Essex club and qualify for ECCA races?

  • Don't think so.

But lots of non essex clubs in ECCA, eg Twickenham.

  • How the fuck can Twickenham be in eastern counties?

  • "The Association was formed for Cycling Clubs in the Eastern Counties of England and this now means Clubs affiliated to the following CTT Districts:- London East, London North, London South, East, South East and South East Midlands.

Membership of the Association carries with it certain obligations, the most important being the requirement to provide marshals for ECCA events although the requirement is directly related to the amount of rider participation. (See link on left for the complete ECCA Rules)"

  • Rapha CC membership is a snip at £135 That's like two drives to Wales :)

Doubt they'd let me in with my fashion sense :D

  • There were a few riders who were DNS on Sat because their club had not paid up for this year, or maybe failed to provide marshals to events last season. So pick carefully.

Also, I've made quite a few gains since last season and felt in pretty good form yesterday, so don't put it all down to the course. Only 90%?

  • Not trying to shit on your training or anything, I just know the E courses are my PB courses for every distance except the 50 and that's only because I've not ridden a 50 on it. They really suit me so it's annoying that I can't ride half the events because they're ECCA only, especially when I cut out 2 months of the season doing dumb rides across continents. If I was in an ECCA club I'd have much more scope for hitting that 49 with much less driving required.

I've marshaled races before so no biggie for me to ride out and stand on a corner for a 10 or something.

Of course, I wasn't in Wales when the Comp record went either so it's not all regional bullshit.

  • Actually I beat my E2/10 elsewhere too, but that would probably be remedied if I could get rides on E2/10 more often.

  • No offence taken. It is fast when the conditions are right. I still need to get a good 25 day on there.

  • Key to getting good conditions is to race it lots, which being in an ecca club would help me a lot. Or being older for vtta races :)

  • Happily I qualify on both of those fronts. Unfortunately, on one level at least, I'm rarely in the UK at weekends this year. So not racing lots. Racing but rarely.

  • Finished my first open TT for 3 years on F1b 50.
Overall a bit disappointing. I'd hoped that the training I'd done this season would have given me a step change in speed, and it didn't. Plodded around in 2:08 on a fast day. Couldn't hold the same position I had three years ago for the full distance so lost some time sitting up here and there, mostly up hills. Probably need to review my position, or acknowledge that I'm going to struggle to get PBs this year and back off, use the ones I've entered as training rides on TCR bike.

Some comedy at the start. Noticed my headset was a bit too loose, and had forgotten Allen keys, so borrowed some and tightened it. Then tried to ride and it was too tight, couldn't steer the bike! So had to borrow another set from someone else and re do it. Then panic to ride across to make my start.

  • Hippy, let me know if you fancy being an LVCC 2nd claim..

  • Yesterday, as I was heading to the start, the guy setting off a min after me rolled past with a flat. I gave him my spare front wheel and felt pretty smug.

After finishing I was heading back to the hq in my Zipcar and saw him, just finished and with a rear puncture. Crammed him and his bike into the car to give him a lift back to the hq.

Turns out he drove up from Dover in a massive car and left it at the hq and he was riding tubs. I carry a full pump/repair kit with me, as I never want to walk down a dual carriageway for an hour.

  • How dare you! I have to target the long distance stuff as it is. Don’t invite @hippy to ruin it for me.

Edit: re club records and all that.

Edit edit: from what I can see you can only enter ECCA events as a 1st claim member.

  • I have a target. The nationals and Welsh 12hr are going to help get my feeding right for the 24hr. I'll probably still screw up. I am hoping then to hit my target in the ecca 12hr as last year I could not find the feed stop and by the time I found it after numerous laps I was hungry and I suffered as a result.

  • I'm not racing any long events and you're already faster at 50... for now.

But yeah, it's first claim membership only so there's not much point joining ECCA as second claim. I'll just have to stop racing TABR and TCR and make do with what events are left in the calendar.

  • Just entered my first open of the year, ecca 100, standard. Hope to get a start with a 3:57 pb, but should at least get into the reserves having actually ticked the box this year...

Ridden my tt bike twice so far this year so time to get training for it, it’s about 10 days after I get back from a week in Mallorca so I should be in good shape really!

  • Does metoffice provide historic air density I could use for my aerolab type calcs?

  • I use wunderground for that, or mywindsock.

  • wunderground does. But if it's precise is your call.

  • I'm just wanting to get a rough idea from a couple of recent races. I've been changing random shit and want to know if I'm slower/faster because changes or weather. Or at least eliminate one or the other a bit. Of course if I was sensible I'd have taken note of the weather conditions and done that analysis right away... but ain't nobody...

  • Do you need to subscribe to either? I thought mywindsock only did upcoming races?
